There is currently a whooping cough epidemic in California and a measles epidemic in Ohio. If it wasn't for that fucking quack Andrew Wakefield and morons with microphones like Jenny McCarthy and Jim Carrey talking people out of vaccinating their kids, we wouldn't have those epidemics.

1) The only vaccine that contains thimerosal is influenza, because it comes in multi-dose vials. The vaccines on the child immunization schedule are thimerosal-free and come in single-dose vials.

2) The studies "knowledgeable, compassionate parents" quote to justify not vaccinating their children were lead-authored by a doctor named Andrew Wakefield. All have been proven fraudulent and all have been withdrawn and disavowed by their co-authors. Wakefield was found guilty of 36 charges made against him, including four counts of fraud and 12 of abusing developmentally-challenged children. He has lost his British medical license over this. (This wiki article has links to the actual papers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Wakefield)

3) Children are DYING because of Wakefield. I don't know about you, but even if vaccines cause autism - and many studies made by authentic researchers attempting to duplicate Wakefield's findings haven't been able to prove a true link between vaccines and autism - most people would agree an autistic kid is better than a dead one.

4) "Classic autism" is stable at 10 cases per 10,000 population. What's growing is "autism spectrum disorders." And one of the reasons that's growing, is they keep adding new conditions to the list...pretty much everything but "highly expressed extroversion" will land you into Autism country.

== 3200 cases of autism in San Diego County ... per your figures , compared to 667 whooping cough ...

Which one is an epidemic ?

According to officials with the county public health office there have been 667 confirmed cases of whooping cough in 2014 in San Diego County.

There kid-coughs were only 89 cases reported during the same time last year and a total of 431 in 2013. Whooping cough reports hit a record high in 2010 with 1,179 cases.

‘This is not unexpected, we know that this will happen every 3-5 years,” said Dr. Wilma J. Wooten, County public health officer.

Health officials said whooping cough epidemic usually happens in cycles.

“Unlike some of the other vaccines, when you get a pertussis vaccine, while its good within the first year … the effectiveness is very high … that effectiveness decreases in the years thereafter. Overall those people who were vaccinated are not as protected as when they first got the vaccine,” said Dr. Wooten.

Symptoms vary by age but include a cough and runny nose for one or two weeks. The cough then worsens and many may experience rapid coughing spells that end with a “whooping” sound.

In infants, symptoms may not include an apparent cough, but could include episodes in which the child’s face turns red or purple.

Despite the vaccine not being full proof, Dr. Wooten advises that it is the best defense against getting the cough.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends the following vaccination schedule:

Young children need five doses of DTaP by kindergarten: at 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 15 to 18 months and 4 to 6 years. all with mercury
