IKEAs 2015 Catalog Launch Is the Perfect Spoof of iPad AdsIKEA is a mecca for cheap furniture, and one of the great things about the company is that it sells original designs, not just knockoffs. But that doesn't mean IKEA cant be reductive when it wants to be. For the launch of its 2015 catalog, IKEA Singapore created an iPad parody ad that flaunts the features of a groundbreaking device: the bookbook.
Much like the noPhone, a bookbook doesn't need to be recharged and is totally cordless. All content is preinstalled and never needs to be updated, plus the viewing surface is super high definition and can expand to double size.
The spot really nails it because it's a great parody of Apple marketing while also basically serving as catalog porn that makes you really, really want to flip through an IKEA catalog. And according 9To5Mac commenters, some customers are even getting the 2015 catalog in spoof Apple packaging. Now thats dedication to a bit.

(2,212 posts)What a brilliant ad! I just e-mailed the link to my niece, who's been working in New York for an ad agency for a couple years now.
I hasten to add that most of the wonderful features of the Ikea Catalog bookbook are also available in novel bookbooks, too.
Actually, I have a Kindle, which I use daily and love. But when I read a book that really moves me, I inevitably buy a hardcover copy. After slipping on a protective dustjacket cover, I find a place for it on my shelves. Not many books make the cut, but for those that do, I like seeing the book beside me in physical form. I've also noticed that when I reread passages in the physical books, I'll notice things that escaped my attention when reading on the Kindle. Not sure why, but that's the case.
(Just had a coffee and, like a bird, I have a tendency to tweet and twitter--puns definitely not intended--a bit in the morning. Bear with me.)

(88,117 posts)A Kindle is nice when going out. But I love books. I think I am just plain sentimental over them. But then I realize a whole generation is here that has never really been exposed that much to books with real covers and pages. I posted something about a FL university library with no books, and the comments showed ages. Several showed almost scorn toward someone who thought a library should have bookbooks.
