Berlin--Metropolis of Vice (interesting documentary of the Weimar Republic before Nazism)

"Berlin: Metropolis of Vice" reveals a modern-day Babylon of cabarets, clubs, and establishments that served up sexual fever dreams in a censorship-free environment.

Kind of conjures up for me memories of the late '70s in America before Reaganism. No, history isn't repeating in this comparison, but, as Mark Twain once observed, it does seem to rhyme.

Makes me wonder if these conditions aren't by design in order to make the situation ripe for a new Leader to step in and clean things up.

an excellent portrait and quite revealing of how fascist and RWers swoop in with a fake morality and outrage to destroy personal freedom and expression. Completely interesting and arresting. Hedonism, sexual freedom, homosexual and LGBT openess and freedom are accepted and normal practice for consenting adults. Then, with the arrival of the RW/fascist 'savior', no free press, arts censured or destroyed, fascism openly practiced, shootings, intimidation, fear of race mixing and finally war to distract a society and, in this case, get it totally destroyed.

A really rich tapestry of then modern Berlin and it's' artistic' denizens who enjoyed a freedom that has since been squelched by the upright moralist running this world and especially this society.

The RW and religious extremist that are vying for power in this country are remarkably similar in their tactics as described in this wonderful documentary. Brown shirts, black shirts, blue shirts falsely arresting, shooting, killing and trying to intimidate unarmed, noncriminal citizens who just want their lives to be theirs regardless of race, sex, sexual orientation, cultural origins, religious or non religious affiliation.

I do not agree with the cocaine, opium and other hard core drugs used by the Berliners since we now know much more of it's affect upon people with psychological profiles that might be susceptible to abuse to these hardcore drugs. Yet, I do not believe that marijuana is a gateway drug and that people can enjoy it with relative freedom of deleterious affect. Thank goodness some states are living in the modern age.

That this documentary is a reflection of a generation almost 100 years ago, the similarity to today's 'modern' society is striking. This documentary has shown me evolution of civilized society has stopped and we are actually regressing to a time like 1933 Germany.

Hopefully not......

made him angry for years; his spoiled blood; his wrecked sex life. Put a frown on his attitude and he wanted to blame someone for it.......

ever noticed; he never posed in bathing attire on hot sunny days.....
