Tim Hardin's cover version became the best known -- so much so that a Hardin compilation album was titled Simple Songs Of Freedom: The Tim Hardin Collection.
As you'd guess from "Simple Song of Freedom", Darin was politically aware and active. He worked on Robert Kennedy's presidential campaign and was at the Ambassador Hotel when Kennedy was assassinated.
