Alison Lundergan Grimes ad: "Skeet Shooting"

Politicus USA describes this ad:

In the ad, Grimes said, “Mitch McConnell wants you to think I’m Barack Obama. Mitch is the same guy who thought Duke basketball players were UK. Or who’s attacking me on coal after doing next to nothing while we’ve lost thousands of coal jobs. He even said it’s not his job to bring jobs to Kentucky. I’m not Barack Obama. I disagree with him on guns, coal and the EPA. And Mitch, that’s not how you hold a gun. I’m Alison Lundergan Grimes and I approved this message.”

The not so subtle use of a shooting a gun appears designed to remind voters that McConnell refuses to say whether or not he owns guns or if he shoots them. To the blue parts of the country, Grimes distancing herself from President Obama might rub some the wrong way, but Mitch McConnell’s main reelection strategy is to paint Grimes as a liberal who is just like President Obama. The problem with this characterization is that Obama isn’t a far left liberal, and neither is Grimes.

bring Kentuckians the "race card" because he has NO record to run on (but plenty to run from).

Lundergan-Grimes knows what she's doing. She knows what Kentuckians want and need, and she's providing it to convince them that she's still a Kentucky woman. More power to her if that takes a seat away from yet another overpaid do-nothing, self-enriching Republican.

Go Alison!

The implied violence of all these commercials supposedly showing candidates as badassed moth**f***kers with their Big Iron really disgusts me.

If that's what it takes to win in Kentucky, more power to her I guess. But speaking as a hunter, this society is way too in love with the idea that a gun makes you tough.

As a Kentucky resident, I will definitely be voting for Grimes but I do not like this ad. I also do not like the fact that she said President is wrong about guns, the EPA and coal. Maybe this is what's needed in Kentucky but to play the Sarah Palin card and distance herself from President Obama leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Not as bad as Mitch McConnell but along the lines of the Blue Dog Democrats. As an environmentalist her position on the EPA and coal is no different from McConnell. She should hammer McConnell with his support of Citizens United and keep tying him to the reason for the increasing economic gap. She should show that all of his policies favor the rich at the expense of the middle class and poor. She should point out how Mitch McConnell has led the obstruction of so many bills that would have helped the people of Kentucky.

She is winning no votes with this ad here in KY.
It's fucking stupid and weak.

There is no fucking 'war on coal,' Obama is not taking our guns away, and KY needs the EPA in a major way as the state regulatory apparatus is owned and operated by the coal and natural gas industry.

She is playing to republicans, a losing strategy in KY.

But this will win her no votes from moderates.
In KY politics, historically Democrats that run as rethugs do terribly.
It creates a mixed message that undermines her party affiliation.

Same here. I pointed out to an old history professor of mine that Grimes is either getting bad advice or not connecting to average Kentuckians. I will vote for her and hope she wins. But you read it her first: McConnell will win a close one. Closer than any race he has run, but he will win. Either by racist ads, female apathy, or by just plain old cheating. He is an asshole millionaire that will stoop so low to win it's almost magical.

And if Alison is running ads like this....it proves the internal polling shows she's well behind in the polls more so than the external polling is showing, she's more than willing to play "race card" politics and nothing will be changing in 2016, in KY Senate Representation....period.

Sorry, but with this ad, she just blew this race....

why does she stoop to their level? She should talk about Democratic ideals not out shooting a gun and what does she mean she disagrees with Obama on the EPA, the EPA? How can you disagree with the EPA? I know its a coal state but talk about transition talk about why we need to move toward renewable energy... People aren't dumb but this ad sure is.

... if this ad gains some votes, then good! I've never shot a gun in my life and if you came to my house for a visit and concealed your weapon, I'd ask you to take your gun and get out of my house. Skeet shooting is a sport, though. I watched it in the Olympics and it was damn interesting. I don't care for her wording to disassociate herself from Obama, but that's another thing you have to bite your lip over. Get over it and vote for her if you live in KY and take ten registered voters with you, preferably Democrats. It's time to ditch Mitch McConnell. The state of KY nor this nation can take any more of McConnell's incessant "NOs." Alison Lundergen-Grimes, if elected, will go to DC and attend hearings, vote on legislation and work her butt off. She has done a great job in KY and she'll do the same in Washington.
