I first heard Steeleye Span sing this in the 70's and if I knew how to post a cover of that, I would. Maddy Prior's soaring vocals told the same tale with powerful words that are as true today as 300 years ago. "What force or guile could not subdue" and "English gold" still speaks to how the systems in power continue to trample the rights of people in mostly unseen, unknown ways.

Scottish independence some 300 years after the Jacobites tried to get the House of Stuarts back to the throne? We'll see in a day or so. Thanks for the post, hobbit709!
