The very words of George W Bush, uttered at a press conference in which not a single of the callow, cowed press corpse saw fit to ask a follow-up. And then he laughs.
Gold Star mom Cindy Sheehan tried to bring it to our nation's attention. Few others, if anyone, saw fit to comment.
As for where American's entrepreneurial spirit of war came from: Poppy: Bush Sr told the FBI he was in Dallas on Nov. 22, 1963.

(83,901 posts)Glad you're here! THIS ONE IS KEY. Just absolutely and completely KEY! Let's remember this moment - dubya's "valentine" to the rest of us. Dumb-ass tipped his hand (and that of warmongers and chickenhawks EVERYWHERE) about what this aggression is really all about: BLOOD FOR GREED. As in OUR blood for THEIR greed.

(4,113 posts)because Gore and Kerry are "baby killers" because they're pro-choice. And I'd bet if you'd show that video to these people they would still vote for Bush. These people aren't pro life as much as they would unconditionally vote Republican in every election. I've said if these people were half as loyal to their faith as they are to their politics, they would be up for sainthood.

Matthew 19:16-22 - Jesus Counsels the Rich Young Ruler
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+19%3A16-22&version=NKJV
16 Now behold, one came and said to Him, Good[a] Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?
17 So He said to him, Why do you call Me good?[ b ] No one is good but One, that is, God.[c] But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.
18 He said to Him, Which ones?
Jesus said, You shall not murder, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, 19 Honor your father and your mother,[d] and, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. [e]
20 The young man said to Him, All these things I have kept from my youth.[f] What do I still lack?
21 Jesus said to him, If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.
22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

Mark 10:17-31 - The Rich and the Kingdom of God
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Mark+10%3A17-31
17 As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. Good teacher, he asked, what must I do to inherit eternal life?
18 Why do you call me good? Jesus answered. No one is goodexcept God alone. 19 You know the commandments: You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, you shall not defraud, honor your father and mother.[a]
20 Teacher, he declared, all these I have kept since I was a boy.
21 Jesus looked at him and loved him. One thing you lack, he said. Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.
22 At this the mans face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.
23 Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!
24 The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again, Children, how hard it is[ b ] to enter the kingdom of God! 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.
26 The disciples were even more amazed, and said to each other, Who then can be saved?
27 Jesus looked at them and said, With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.
28 Then Peter spoke up, We have left everything to follow you!
29 Truly I tell you, Jesus replied, no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel 30 will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age: homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fieldsalong with persecutionsand in the age to come eternal life. 31 But many who are first will be last, and the last first.
Our modern-day Pharisees wouldn't like this. We actually have a LOT of proof that they don't. Because they NEVER BRING THIS UP. They NEVER MENTION THESE Scripture passages in their "holy" pontifications and proselytizing. They'll quote you that crap, ALL DAY, about "if you don't work, you shall not eat." Know what? Just for the record and in the interest of accuracy (which never interests our modern-day Pharisees), Jesus never said that. Don't try to hang this shit on Jesus Christ. It's NOT His message. It came from yet another "middle man," the Apostle Paul (the Hard-ass):
2 Thessalonians 3 - Those Who Are Lazy
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2+Thessalonians+3&version=MSG
3 1-3 One more thing, friends: Pray for us. Pray that the Masters Word will simply take off and race through the country to a groundswell of response, just as it did among you. And pray that well be rescued from these scoundrels who are trying to do us in. Im finding that not all believers are believers. But the Master never lets us down. Hell stick by you and protect you from evil.
4-5 Because of the Master, we have great confidence in you. We know youre doing everything we told you and will continue doing it. May the Master take you by the hand and lead you along the path of Gods love and Christs endurance.
6-9 Our ordersbacked up by the Master, Jesusare to refuse to have anything to do with those among you who are lazy and refuse to work the way we taught you. Dont permit them to freeload on the rest. We showed you how to pull your weight when we were with you, so get on with it. We didnt sit around on our hands expecting others to take care of us. In fact, we worked our fingers to the bone, up half the night moonlighting so you wouldnt be burdened with taking care of us. And it wasnt because we didnt have a right to your support; we did. We simply wanted to provide an example of diligence, hoping it would prove contagious.
10-13 Dont you remember the rule we had when we lived with you? If you dont work, you dont eat. And now were getting reports that a bunch of lazy good-for-nothings are taking advantage of you. This must not be tolerated. We command them to get to work immediatelyno excuses, no argumentsand earn their own keep. Friends, dont slack off in doing your duty.
14-15 If anyone refuses to obey our clear command written in this letter, dont let him get by with it. Point out such a person and refuse to subsidize his freeloading. Maybe then hell think twice. But dont treat him as an enemy. Sit him down and talk about the problem as someone who cares.
16 May the Master of Peace himself give you the gift of getting along with each other at all times, in all ways. May the Master be truly among you!
17 I, Paul, bid you good-bye in my own handwriting. I do this in all my letters, so examine my signature as proof that the letter is genuine.
18 The incredible grace of our Master, Jesus Christ, be with all of you!

(12,471 posts)The bible, god, and jesus are all myths. If you choose to believe in that brand of mythology, than so be it. You should be aware that there are similar myths in other religious beliefs.
They only say that they believe in the bible and god, because, like government, religion is meant to control the masses. Religion sometimes does a better job, and when combined with government, can do a great job.
Yes, these stories bring a good sense of humanity to many situations, but they are just stories. Many of us do not need stories to tell us what is right and wrong.
So when the right wing use god and jesus as examples, it is their interpretation of the mythology that matters to them. Many see their god as one who will forgive them for any wrong that they have done, and go on behaving poorly. Those of us who do not believe in this mythology simply act as best as we can to one another, our earth, and our future, without the stories, or the fear of god.

When these know-nothings attempt to use their "understanding" of Scripture, there are too many who just take that as - pardon the pun - "gospel". Since they clearly are getting it wrong and trying to show that Christ said that, they need to be corrected. As publicly as possible. Sometimes one has to fight on other ground than one maintains as one's own. As a Catholic (even a conflicted one) I still happen to believe in the basics. But that means I'm a lot more accurate with Scripture quotes than the michele bachmanns of the world ever could be. As long as they maintain this kind of crap I think it's up to us who actually know and studied who said what to correct them. I never tire of proving those idiots to be total idiots!
Btw - I typed in "catholic" and the auto-correct wanted to make it "carholic"!!!!! ROFL!!!!!!

(2,224 posts)... the point Bush II was trying to make in this press conference is that financial interests often prevent countries from getting onboard with sanctions that will promote peace. Clearly that's what he means by "Money trumps peace"--and, generally speaking, that's a legitimate observation.
Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of Bush II. But I think it's perfectly possible to discredit his ideas and actions without misrepresenting his utterances.

(750 posts)Money trumps Pease, with that said America considered being one of the most wealthy countries in the world should have somewhat of a lasting Pease. Yet we do not.
It is apparent that whole paradigm of the Bush secret history is awkward or just plain presented wrong by mainstream media, with the Bushs smiling in your face bullied actions intentional and criminal that profiteer family wealth rather then serve the public.
With clear ties to the Harrimans Railroad the Union Pacific that still shadow a transportation industry full of deceit fraud and culture decadent to criminal in social responsibility.
The Bush family in a relentless effort write in their own history to cover up decades of swindling public and corporate money profiteering. Exampled by the relation with the Harriman railroad mogul tied to the Union Pacific and with the Walker family. Or, that Harriman known to finance the Nazi is plain scary to exist so secretly with abandon by the media.
In addition the friends of close family relations to the very enemy America is fighting, the Bin Laden Family, close business partners for decades yet millions or billions of dollars in partnership over decades of business between Bush, Cheney, and other close friends making deals with the enemy. That used to be called treason.

Michael Parenti has chronicled how the wealthy and powerful are the ones who -- historically -- get to tell the story of our times.
Thanks to the Internet and GOOGLE, the wealthy's monopoly on History -- and that's Orwellian impact on the present -- may soon be no more.
Most importantly: Thank you for the kind and detailed reply, polynomial. As long as there are two of us, Democracy will survive.
