Few people really notice him in films because he's always been so completely believable and seemingly does it effortlessly.

I've watched quite a few so-so movies just to see his work in them.

Yup. He becomes part of the scenery. But Good Night, and Good Luck was a chance for him to shine, and he did. He should have nabbed the Oscar.

Try Sneakers some time where he plays a blind guy. Or, Temple Grandin (a good HBO flick) where he plays a teacher, a small part.
