1. Way to Go, Mr. President!

A great job - and some very pertinent political jabs made as well!

At least, you will never se any republican do that after him - and be that classy about it... And I think he likes irony well - as a sharped sword it is a elegant weapon for sure

4. Love you madly, Diclotican.

But there's always Tricky Dicky's "Sock it to me?"

http://m.

Somehow that does not rise to President Obama's level on Colbert.

My best.

I do my best - sometimes I manage to get it right too

And yes - I doubt most republicans have the finesse to do as President Obama did it - with a large dose of Irony.. I doubt most modern republicans - at least from Eisenhower and forward would have the ability to make some fun about them self - and have a great time doing it.. I suspect Colbert and Obama - had some great time when they was trying for this little gig

31. Thanks so much, Diclotican!

I completely agree. That's one of the qualities I admire most about this president, his humor and the ability to laugh, including at himself. The last president sure didn't have that, saw him yesterday recommending his brother for the office, and he still doesn't get it. Whatever else anyone says about President Obama, he has the perfect temperament, and this appearance proves that, yet again. Glad you enjoyed the clip...

I do enjoyed the clip - in fact I showed it to some of my friends - and put it on face book - and then it kind of was going off on its own from how many who put it on their "timeline"....

And it is great to have a President - who is able to laughter about himself - and have fun - the last President had not this ability - and did a bad job even trying making fun.... But he did had his moments - when he was not trying - and acted stupid in the prosess....

And He is ABSOLUTELY a person i would have a beer with - and I doesn't even drink... But what a blast it would have been having a beer or two with President Obama.. (I stick to coca-cola or a glass of water but hey, he can drink whatever he want)

36. I completely agree, Diclotican...

This is a president who can be deadly serious, but also knows how to have fun. I can't imagine how he could have survived the past six years without the latter. And this must drive his opponents crazy, LOL. I don't drink, either, but just meeting with this remarkable and affable president would just be the best, don't know why the Republicans keep avoiding it...

I guess if he had not had the ability to laughter about himself - and to come with puns - who hit his opponents harder than they are able to hit him - he would be dead by now - and yeah - that ability to make some fun out of it - must drive his opponents crazy of madness - just think about it - he is able to make fun about them - without loosing his cool - I would have swear-ed them up and down - as a berserker if I had ben the US president. I have a more nag for revenge than it looks like President Obama have.... And as the most mighty man alive I would have some resources to make sure I got my revenge too...

Just to be able to sit down and speak with him - would have been a great time - even if my spoken english is not as good as my written english (not that it says to Mitch) but to have been able to speak with him for a while - maybe getting a few laughter with him - that would have been amazing to put it gentle... And I guess I would have getting more out of it than he did

And I also doesn't know why republicans tend to not want to talk with him - but then again Republicans, and conservatives are not that good in humor - and have some fun - in the old world - under WW2 people could make some great fun about the nazis - and it flew over their head - some of them even was laughing with them - if they understood it - or not... In 1943, in front of a large audience of SS leaders - with Heinrich Himmler in front - one of Berlins best artist ants managed to hit the nazis hard when the light got out - because of a bombing raid over Berlin.. And everyone had a great time - and even Himmler gratulated the person who made some solid jokes about the bombing for a great perfomance.... They just doesn't got what he said.... He was out on a limp - but managed to survive it all - and even survived the war - and was a star on the Berlin theater scene for decades after WW2

39. I agree that he has to have had a good sense of humor to have remained sane these last years

Along with that, he's always likely the smartest person in the room, the most probable reason the Republicans are reluctant to meet with him. Not only do they lack humor, and smarts, but half of them are downright crazy!

Thanks so much for the example from history. Things have changed a great deal, and not for the better. My parents always voted Republican (though my mother promised me she would vote for the Democratic congressman I was working for... ), but when President Kennedy was killed, she was devastated. He was our president - and a decent human being. The Republicans seem to have lost that lesson...

It help if you KNOW you are the smartest man in the room - and as you say it so great - the real reason most republicans doesn't want to be in the same room - if not the same building - or maybe the same City as the President - they lack some in the departments indeed - and I guess some of them would have been better off in a mental institution than in the halls of power... They are scary to be honest - and I can not even understand why they was able to be elected again, after what they stated this time around....

I guess the Republican Party of your parents time - was far more sane than todays Republican Party - and I guess most people was crying when J. F Kennedy was killed - And he was not getting a even a small segments of the outright HATE the republicans is given the current President - JFK was a great president - and I would say he is maybe one of the greatest Presidents US had - before the current one - who also will go into the history books like a gigant - even if he is hated by the conservatives on a level I doubt any democratic or republican President have ever encountered.. After all - Kennedy also was killed - most posible by the right wings....

I think in fact - most hard-die republicans have lost their soul - to me it looks from what I do understand about the GOP - they have sold out their soul for some earthly gains - but the devil will always get his debt... And at least, they do not work for the better of the whole US - just for the few ones who really is important - in their wiews....

The History can learn us a lot - both of the great triumph of the human ability - but also of the worst of the worst about us as humans..

43. I'd say it was a generational thing, automatic respect for whoever is the president

It really used to be that way and I'm old enough to remember it. I remember when Bill Clinton was first elected president, Republican icon Barry Goldwater was a guest on one of the late night talk shows, Jay Leno, I think. And he was asked what he thought of President Clinton, obviously expecting a tirade of disapproval. But Leno(?) was disappointed since Goldwater refused to take the bait. He said he knew what kind of a reaction was expected of him, but he had nothing critical to say. He said that Clinton "is my president, too." However, it now seems that a great deal of the hate is coming from the older generation.

As for the money, you couldn't be more right. I've believed that for a lot of years and it's only gotten worse - embarrassingly obviously so. Fair elections are becoming next to impossible. But those who are benefiting the most will always vote campaign finance reform down.

24. Respectful and very funny. I especially loved the very end...

Colbert: Last question, sir -- Barack Obama.
The President: Yeah.
Colbert: Great president or the greatest president? (audience goes wild)
The President: I'll leave that one alone, Stephen.

I also loved that he usurped Stephen's place (abuse of power, LOL) to substitute The Decree for Colbert's The Word. This president gets it (even mentioning being mindful of the dignity of the office, knowing that the RWNJs will slam him.)
