In case there's still anyone who takes RT & Abby Martin seriously: Fluoride Conspiracy Theory!!!

Last edited Thu Jan 15, 2015, 08:00 PM - Edit history (1)

I honestly feel sorry for anyone taken in by this newsmodel, the same as I do for people who watch FOX.

Most health effect arguments against water fluoridation (such as toxicity and mottled teeth) base their assumptions on much higher doses of fluoride than are allowed in tap water and the excessive cherry-picking of studies. Additional studies on links between fluoride and cancer, and fluoride and bone fractures have been shown to be invalid.[11] Other arguments are based on the false assumption that if fluoridation worked, there would be no tooth decay. Dental fluorosis is a potential hazard but is not problematic if the dosage is controlled.
...
Conspiracy theories
Water fluoridation as a commie plot started among the wingnut paranoids during the Cold War, most notably the John Birch Society. The conspiracy theory gained currency among far-left moonbats after it mutated in the early 1990s into a plot by the aluminium industry to dispose of their fluoride wastes by dumping them into the water supply for profit.[15] The implication that Big Pharma is out to poison you and that the scientific consensus is proof of a massive world-wide conspiracy of scientists/dentists makes reasoning with conspiracy theorists particularly difficult.

I agree that bringing on Alex Jones is tantamount to bringing on the boy who cried wolf (except Alex is never right). And she does cover the oddball story, but there are doctors out there who are convinced that fluoridation is not a good thing. Fluoride is a poison. There is a reason you are not supposed to give kids adult toothpaste. It says right on the tube that you are not to ingest it. At all.

Will it make me stop drinking the water? No. But that does not mean it is good for you.

Anecdotally, I bet more Democrats drink unfluoridated bottled water than Republicans. I know the only tap water I get is in the shower. So, higher IQs and we tend to vote for our own self-interests.

Abby Martin is a voice crying in the wilderness. Of course, some viewers may be carrying some baggage?

reminds me all too much of right wing thinking and tactics.

like this post the op searches and posts and reposts the same content on the sie.

The op has single-handedly increased the amount of posts from Rt. Funny thing that... progrssives don't much care for authoritarians telling thèm what to think and watch. (most have had enough of it from years of right wiñgers.I doubt the op will understand why his posts dont sway us all to follow his eminant wisdom.

not sure what your point is. there is a debate to be had on this for many reasons. do you just want everyone to stop learning and making change.

there is also mounting evidence that amalgam fillings have health side effects and dentists and patients are slowly changing to other methods.

You wanna ask her about it?

Fluoride and mercury are both toxic.

The enemy of my enemy is my ally.

RT stories are no doubt run past the Putin censors before airing, but the same can be said for American networks.

I remember a documentary about American media bias way back in the mid 80's. I forgot the name. (I tried in vain just now to find it) In one scene ABC news has a clip of a Sandinista peace march, basically a rally to protest being attacked by the US contras. In a shot you would probably never be allowed to see today, there was a scene with Peter Jennings and about 15 executives, producers in a room. But also someone representing the government. Now the Nicaraguans called it a "peace march" themselves, as they were literally marching for peace for their country. But at some point the government rep said "You can't call it a peace march, call it a Sandinista anti-US rally" And Jennings and the others just nodded and went along. And this is back in the mid 80's!

So, that's a long roundabout way of saying you have to be wary of every news production, from anywhere.

That being said, conversely, its also blind-sighted to dismiss out of hand EVERY news story from a particular source (FOX News excluded)

Example; I'm sure we can get more accurate information on the Malaysian Airliner shot down over Eastern Ukraine from American and other Western news sources than RT, for obvious reasons. But using the same logic, it should also be obvious that we can get stories about America from sources like RT that networks refuse to show to the public here, or are highly edited and skewed if they are.

As others have pointed out, fluoridated water may indeed be a health risk that only persists because of big money interests. At one time smoking was advertized as GOOD for you, and asbestos was a great insulator. I for one do not rely entirely on American broadcasts.

She also raised some studies that say a large percentage of fluoride is retained in the body. So that seems like no matter how small the percent is, because of its cumulative build up over a life time, it may still be hazardous.

In fact searching around it seems like a few years ago the US Department of Health decided that there WAS too much of it in the drinking water:

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2011/02/05/breaking-news-us-finally-admits-too-much-fluoride-in-the-water.aspx

In a nearly unprecedented about face, U.S. federal health officials admit Americans are getting too much fluoride. It's causing spots on children's teeth (dental fluorosis) and could be resulting in other, more serious problems.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has announced plans to lower the recommended level of fluoride in drinking water for the first time in nearly 50 years. The change in policy is based on a fresh review of the science.

Yahoo News reports:

"The announcement is likely to renew the battle over fluoridation ... The Environmental Protection Agency released two new reviews of research on fluoride Friday. One of the studies found that prolonged, high intake of fluoride can increase the risk of brittle bones, fractures and crippling bone abnormalities."

But anyways, the point is not to dismiss stories because of a preconceived concept of the messenger. And also that...yes....RT and Putin will want to air any story that embarrasses the US or makes them look like hypocrites. They don't have to actually lie to do that. There is plenty of material out there. Its just not allowed on American MSM sites. If I have to go to RT to find out this information I will and am glad such a network exists.

It's a pretty good website that tends to attract (pissed off) scientists who know what they're talking about.

Some of the things you mention from the RT report are specifically mentioned in the Rationalwiki piece (see "Stop reading the data wrong".)

I think the US media is robust and diverse enough that the truth about most things tends to find a place somewhere, without having to ever go to places like FOX or RT.

The anti-Fluoride kooks are out in force.

Including just above some idiot using mercola.com, one of the biggest health FRAUDS out there.

Even using some quack "dentist" who takes mercury fillings out.
Several of these quacks have lost their licenses and/or ended up in jail for fraud.
