Pap and Seder: Netanyahu Hungers For War With Iran

Reports have surfaced that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has asked to speak to Congress in March. While this normally wouldn’t seem out of the ordinary by normal political means, it strikes ire with the White House as Netanyahu coordinated this visit with House Speaker John Boehner rather than the Obama administration, all in an effort to win support for sanctions against Iran.

Ring of Fire’s Mike Papantonio and Sam Seder discuss this.

I wrote a post about it here.

The Logan Act prohibits any “Private correspondence with foreign governments” and reads; “Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.” The Supreme Court ruled that Congress cannot and should not conduct foreign affairs; that power rests in the Executive Branch exclusively.

**snip**

Boehner violated the Logan Act just by “directly commencing or carrying on any correspondence with a foreign government, or agent thereof” with his admitted and explicit intent of influencing measures of the United States.

Edited to add: Apparently, Boehner believes that Prime Minister Netanyahu is the Republican Representative of Israel.

some election platform in exchange for his help in bombing of Iran. The Rethugs fostered by the Birchers have wanted this confrontation since the early fifties. One only has to remember how this all started and who the players were. How soon we forget the history of the failed British and French Empires only to be reconstituted as the American Empire based on the Standard Oil model. And the Military Industrial Complex lives on.

Sheldon Adelson is 81 years old, so how many more election cycles is that for him? Maybe 2 or 3 at best?
