Tell Congress not to censor the internet NOW! - http://www.fightforthefuture.org/pipa
PROTECT-IP is a bill that has been introduced in the Senate and the House and is moving quickly through Congress. It gives the government and corporations the ability to censor the net, in the name of protecting "creativity". The law would let the government or corporations censor entire sites-- they just have to convince a judge that the site is "dedicated to copyright infringement."
The government has already wrongly shut down sites without any recourse to the site owner. Under this bill, sharing a video with anything copyrighted in it, or what sites like Youtube and Twitter do, would be considered illegal behavior according to this bill.
According to the Congressional Budget Office, this bill would cost us $47 million tax dollars a year that's for a fix that won't work, disrupts the internet, stifles innovation, shuts out diverse voices, and censors the internet. This bill is bad for creativity and does not protect your rights.

Scroll down for different ways to express your feelings about this! They have a great tool to censor a post for you than you can then share anywhere on the internet, and when people click to un-censor (de-censor?) it provides them with information about this issue! I think it's neat.
Or, directly contact any company you have a connection with that is supporting these bills and let them know what you think.

(950 posts)The name registrar GoDaddy supports SOPA. If you are a net admin and have domains with GoDaddy, switch them to a different registrar. I just changed all mine to NameCheap, which actively OPPOSES SOPA. http://www.namecheap.com?aff=25573
Use the coupon code SWITCH2NC for $1 off.
(I am not affiliated with Name Cheap nor employed by them. I just am encouraging you to vote with your dollars as well).

(7,516 posts)Of course corporate media supports SOPA. They favor saving legal fees and hassles versus freedom of speech. They favor the govenment policing their business when it's convenient for them, and crying "foul" when the govenrment infringes on their programming.
They do not support principles, they only support things when it affects the bottom line.
