The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) is the largest--and worst--trade deal you've never heard of and Republicans in Congress want to work with the Obama administration to "fast track" its passage.

NPR is, IMO, pretty damn compromised. When its support was cut down from D.C. it was only a matter of time before they'd have to start selling off their credibility.

(32,085 posts)NAFTA on steroids and that's just the beginning. Privacy - gone. Internet - sold to the highest bidder (corporate control). We as activists have to keep fighting. Just the little bits of TPP that have been leaked have been horrible. It only benefits corporations - like everything else politicians do in this country.

(1,701 posts)Why is Obama supporting this? I haven't followed this closely, but I truly don't get it. Admittedly, I don't know the details, but it sounds like a terrible deal, and I trust Robert Reich.

Makes you wonder if ANYONE is on our side.

(2,065 posts)for all of Obama's "Hope and Change" campaign slogans. Yes, we can - send our country down the fast track to total disaster - economically and environmentally, as well as in terms of privacy and civil rights, employment, health and safety standards, national sovereignty, and in any other way you can think of. Who of us here remembers Obama lecturing the members of the Supreme Court on the negative repercussions of the disastrous Citizens United decision in his State of the Union speech? He said that the special interests that buy our elections don't even have to be American. But here he is, supporting the TPP, and selling our national sovereignty down the river in a way that even circumvents the electoral process - that certainly is rabid, disingenuous hypocrisy on Obama's part, if not outright lying. Follow the money is damn right. Wake up America! Amend the constitution to get money out of politics once and for all! Otherwise, we'll be reeling from one outrageous crisis to the next, with no breathing room in between, and totally unable to get down to the urgent business of fixing our nation and restoring our democracy.
