Daily Cute: Baby Opossums Eating Watermelon

Marta and I feed the Opossums every evening just before dark. On the other side of our back fence is Fontenelle Forest: http://www.fontenelleforest.org/

They get bread, corn, an assorted seed mix, and fruits or vegetables. The simple joy of watching the smiles on these happy little creatures is so rewarding. We hope to be seeing a new generation showing up in the near future.

Kudos to the animal lover that rescued these orphans!

These poor orphaned opossums were raised for six months by a kind animal lover and then set loose into the wild where they belong. Their tiny fingers gripping the bowl and open-mouthed chomps are too precious for words.

I admit to being a little scared of opossums because the ones around here are rather ugly and one attacked our dog when I was a kid. But I learned here on DU that they don't have rabies, so now I keep clear of the many adorable raccoons in my neighborhood. Those little guys eating the watermelon remind me how great life is.
