(4,569 posts)President Obama won because the opposition was more of the same failed policies of the right wing.

(10,893 posts)why did it take us so long to get our 1st black president anyway? Considering that logic, both Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton would've already been successful at their bids for the presidency, and we may have avoided the Reagan/Bush Jr. bullets.

(4,441 posts)Congressional members do not get retirement for serving just one term.
If over 62, they need 5 years of service. If 50 - 62, they need 20 years.

(51,550 posts)Good catch (I need to factcheck my in-laws' e-mail better!). He's in the House, not the Senate. You're right to the extent that no member of Congress is eligible for any pension unless he or she has served in Congress for at least five years. (Senators serve six-year terms; House members must seek reelection every two years.)
However, a three-term congressman (or one-term senator) who has reached retirement age would be eligible for an annual pension of $17,588 for six years of work. That's still extremely generous.

So, it's good to know that since the douche is a House member, if we bounce him in November, he'll be on his own, like his kids.

Obama would have won.
A. Republicans tanked the economy, got us in to useless wars, drove up the debt
B. He wasn't John McCain
C. Joe Biden wasn't caribou barbie of the north
D. The Obama/Biden are smooth and cool.
That, I have to admit, even though I'm not happy with some of Obamas policies. He gets you breakfast in bed, but its scrambled eggs with shit, toast with a topping of shit, shit that tastes like bacon, and a nice cool drink of shit.
