Bernie Sanders Officially Announces 2016 Presidential RunPublished on Apr 30, 2015
He hits the issues that Average Americans are Dealing with..and I've not heard anyone Do this Better!
Senator Bernie Sanders held a press conference this afternoon to officially announce his 2016 run for the White House. Sanders spent a great deal of his announcement taking questions from reporters and laying out his agenda for the country, focusing on the wealth gap and the billionaire class that is literally able to buy elections.
Wonderful Q&A with Corporate Press....

(41,118 posts)Thanks for the video post. His lengthy interview with Ed Shultz on MBNBC tonight at 5PM, ET was outstanding. Many important issues covered in 35 mins.+
Bernie is the People's Senator, for sure. So many are excited about his entrance into the campaign for good reason!

(84,711 posts)He's on fire...But, then he's been doing this on Thom Hartmann for a long time...but, now, I hope more people are willing to give him an audience to listen to what he has been saying.

(41,118 posts)It was fantastic, discussed so many vital issues. I see Bernie regularly on Thom Hartmann's daily program, (M-F, 12-3 pm et) on the Friday 'BRUNCH WITH BERNIE' segment, usually 1-2 pm et.
You really get to know Bernie and see how he helps the many program callers from all over the US eager to speak to him about issues. The man's an angel, a very hardworking one. What other politician would offer this much time to help people, for 10+ years now one DUer wrote. Amazing, what a national treasure, The People's Senator truly.

Applied to politicians it would be you can get them to say left things but you can't make them do it...past is prologue.

(7,393 posts)"Admitting the tactic is typical of aspiring candidates, Obama promised to overhaul a political system he says is dominated by lobbyists and special interest groups "who've turned our government into a game only they can afford to play."
"They write the checks and you get stuck with the bills, they get the access while you get to write a letter, they think they own this government, but we're here today to take it back. The time for that kind of politics is over," he said. "It's time to turn the page right here and right now."

(10,622 posts)Obama never intended to overhaul anything other than his image, he said lots of things he didn't mean in order to get elected.
I believe that Sanders actually means what he says as that has been his style for over 20 years.
He is not just pretending IMO, but the real deal and that is a huge difference.

(7,393 posts)A constitutional amendment is near impossible even if Dems had a super majority. Thanks, Ralph Nader!
As an aside, the purists will ignore all that and believe Sanders even as a campaigns on the impossible. Same thing they did when Obama ran.

(7,393 posts).... that believe their PERFECT political candidate exists, and that every other candidate is awful and corrupt. (and they insult and disdain anyone who doesn't share their reverence for their chosen one).
Then they project that image of perfection on to the chosen demigod they have created in their head. Naturally, in time, they realize their demigod is not really a demigod after all. Reality eventually sets in. Their perfect candidate (who never actually existed) becomes the awful corrupt one, and a new demigod is anointed.
For a recent example see Obama 2007 and Obama 2015.

(10,622 posts)I have never met anyone that believes in a perfect anybody, let alone a politician (well, there are a few that see Obama that way, but I don't think that is what you mean).
I do know many that wish this never happened because it is driving them to the poor house, we do not need two party Friedmanomics, it is killing us and many feel this way, they do not want perfect, they want a representative that represents working people and not well to do crooks.
People that are not as financially comfortable as perhaps you are are just looking for politicians that will fight to help get us a fair deal (they are not expected to always win, but we want those that will at least fight for us). We have found a few and elected a few, we are looking for one for POTUS as well, how does that equal the strawman you keep whipping for the crowd?
MaggieD
(7,393 posts)Weren't you paying attention to DU back in 2007? Same people, they just have a different demigod.

(5,719 posts)That's amazing for someone who has been pulling in more than $150k a year as a Senator for 5 years and somewhat less than that as a Congressman for 16 years before that.

What's really disgusting is the average Senator is worth almost $11 million. How can they represent the middle class when they aren't connected to the middle class? Go Bernie.

(2,073 posts)This feels exactly like 2008 when I stood as one of a very few in my local Democratic club as a supporter of Barack Obama in 2008. I remember a lot of people who didn't believe he could get elected, let alone be the nominee.
Bernie Sanders will surprise a lot of people. He is supremely electable and we are ripe for a true populist to occupy the White House.
Go Bernie!
