(26,624 posts)"The only way we beat the billionaire class is when millions of people organize and say enough is enough. We want to go to college without going bankrupt. We're entitled to healthcare as a right. We don't want our jobs to go to China." - Bernie Sanders

(26,624 posts)Chevrons Richmond money theyre spending more than $100 per voter is just a fraction of the billions being spent this year on the most expensive midterm elections in history, money unleashed by Citizens United, McCutcheon and other court decisions that have turned voting into what feels more like an auction than one person, one vote. Because the Supreme Court says money is speech and big business can buy all it wants, corporations are trying to drown out the voice of anyone trying to speak out against them, whether in Congress or a state legislature, on a judges bench or in city hall.
Apparently for these guys, owning and controlling our economy is not enough, Sanders told the rally. They now want to own and control the government. And we are not going to allow them to do that. Not in Richmond, not anywhere.

(41,131 posts)just the opposite. The early founders and Americans fought for independence from control by the great power, aristocracy, absolutism and wealth of England. It's our nation and our democracy, and no persons of wealth can buy it or own it.
FYI People: King George III of England was our last hereditary absolute Monarch!
It's "WE THE PEOPLE" remember. Americans fought and died for this democracy, the first one after 2,000 years!
Our democracy and way of life that were once respected around the world, are declining and must be protected & preserved. "A coward dies a thousand deaths" as my father, a WWII soldier who fought Nazi Germany said.
