Dan Rather and Hurricane Carla (there are no cats in this video =P )

I was 9 years old. We had just moved from Galveston to Houston the year before.

Our Galveston neighbors from across the street came up and stayed with us during the storm.

If anybody here remembers Carla or went through it, please post or im me.

Further to the West. Nevertheless, I remember the wind but don't really remember much rain. I was 7. I never really learned much about Carla until years later. In the mid-70's I went fishing with some friends who had a place in Port O'Comner. I noticed a lot of foundation posts sticking out of the ground around much of the town. I asked what they were and was told Pr O'Conner was where Carla went in and that's all that was left. 15 years later it still looked like a ghost town.

I went back to Pt OC a few years ago. There were more businesses and newer hones and it doesn't look much like where Carla went in anymore.

is one of the greatest, up there with Cronkite, Murrow, and Sevareid. Despite the smear machine, Rather remains and honest, committed journalist.
