(77,535 posts)According to the U.S. Department of Defense, between 2001 and 2014 some 230,000 soldiers and veterans were identified as suffering from so-called mild traumatic brain injury (TBI), mostly as a result of exposure to blast events. The variety of symptoms associated with the conditionheadache, seizures, motor disorders, sleep disorders, dizziness, visual disturbances, ringing in the ears, mood changes, and cognitive, memory, and speech difficultiesthe fact that they resemble symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and the fact that exposure to blast events often was not logged in the early years of the campaigns in Afghanistan and Iraq make it impossible to pin down casualty figures.

Thanks for the stats. Completely unreported and forgotten - unless the VA failings are all Obama's fault.

(77,535 posts).... Europe in Africa in WW II. The idea that another bush would even show his face again
is sickening because without Jeb's help for W we would never had bush v Gore, 9/11, war in
Afghanistan, war in Iraq, ISIS, and on and on.
That's chillingly. Thanks for the perspective.
No casualties - that's what Pat Robertson said W told him. Even that whack-a-doodle was taken aback by W's stupidity.

(21,492 posts)As Katrina bore down on New Orleans, Bush was in California playing the guitar. I remember saying at the time as I watched online, this is Madness. What is he doing out there with this unmitigated natural disaster bearing down on our nation?

(18,652 posts)I was thinking the same thing---where is our federal gov with FEMA, Nat. Guard, etc. moving in? So this explains it - Georgia boy was playing guitar in Cali. Well that explains it.

(21,492 posts)At that time. And the president couldn't notice it!?! I emailed some good friends (conservative) saying, for goodness sake, why is the president playing the guitar in California as this storm hit? They basically said, What about Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky?
Yuck.

Jeb is just creepy. Thats a fake smile. He does not have a smile face. Not in his rep.he is a very depressed person. Like any Bush , no concience at all. No sense of humility. Never worked a day in his life. Given a huge advantyage he has used his opportunity to enrich himself never considering any other idea. Has stolen and swindled so much he is never satisfied. No amount of money can fulfill an empty soul.
His smile is a creepy fake smile. He wants to be someone he cannot be anyone on his own. He is an empty suit.

(11,194 posts)Apparently, something happened earlier that day to make him finally take the threat of terrorism seriously. Through the first eight months of his presidency and the whole campaign before that, he never once felt terrorism warranted much attention.

(14,709 posts)To NEVER use the "except for 9/11" comeback.
There is a determined effort to make 9/11 "nobodies fault". That what was important is that there wasn't another big sensational attack. Not allowing a second attack is somehow a huge success. In fact one of greatest accomplishments of Dubya and Uncle Cheney was, in the eyes of Republicans, and never challenged by the MSM, is that he "kept us safe".
Despite ignoring Richard Clarkes warnings, President Clinton's outgoing warnings, multiple warnings from other countries, and finally a detailed warning one month before the attacks called, "Bin Ladin Determined To Strike in US" which mentioned highjacking planes....Bush took a record number of holidays for a sitting President. Apparently Ashcroft was so tired of hearing about Al Qaeda, he threw the head of the FBI out of his office with instructions he didn't want to hear that name anymore.
They were either pathetically incompetent or, as I believe, (call me crazy) they downplayed the warnings and allowed the plot to go ahead, maybe even facilitated with explosives in order to keep casualties down (so the buildings went straight down) plus it gave an excuse to take down Building 7 fielded offices of the SEC, FBI, CIA, NSA among others, contained tons of information on corporate fraud, all destroyed.

(319,560 posts)Had little bush paid attention to this instead of "removing brush".. then maybe he would have but he didn't and you're a god damn liar.. August 6, 2001 Memo that stated..
"Bin Ladin Determined To Strike in US was the President's Daily Brief prepared by the Central Intelligence Agency and given to U.S. President George W. Bush on Monday, August 6, 2001. The brief warned of terrorism threats from Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda 36 days before the September 11, 2001 attacks."
Anyway.. bush2 has come a long way since this...

Still..

(1,059 posts)When Clinton handed the White House over to W, the Clinton folks emphasized to Bush/Cheney that Al Qaeda was the biggest threat this nation faced at that time. They handed over a myriad of documents pointing out this fact. Cheney shelved every one of them. Further, in August of 2001 while W was "cutting brush" on his ranch, the CIA sent a special envoy to the ranch to urge W to act before we get hit. They informed W that an attack was imminent. Bush's response? "OK, you've covered your ass." He then did nothing. Then 911, the worst attack on the US homeland ever in history of this country, happened. So to Jeb's comment saying "he kept us safe" I say, fuck you Jeb. You can't rewrite history when the people that lived it are still alive.

(8,018 posts)Let's not forget the anthrax killer that he never found or the DC snipers.
Then protecting the homeland would also include maintaining a strong economy and the meltdown of 2008 shows that he didn't do that either. So, no, Jeb your brother was the worst President ever and you sound just like him.
