1. Though sugar is probably a big problem too, it is HFCS that makes these problems worse...

If you buy cokes today, buy Mexican cokes with REAL sugar instead of the fake sugar that likely is more responsible for diabetes, etc. (which had its incidence grow quite a bit in the 70's when the industry moved from natural sugar to HFCS then).

Even diet drinks mess you up as your body isn't satisfied like it is with natural sugar after enough consumption that would keep you from eating a lot more other food that you don't need.

"REAL" sugar has a glycemic index of 65. HFCS-55 (used most often in soft drinks) has GI of 58.

This makes the problem worse:

4. Domestic sugar industry has been protected from cheaper foreign sources of sugar for years.

This caused many candy companies to move operations out of the U.S. (Cheaper Sugar sends Candy Makers Abroad) and increased demand for HFCS.

Protection of domestic sugar producers costs consumers almost $4 Billion a year. (Sugar Tariffs Cost Americans $3.86 Billion in 2011)

Even diet soda.
