I don't hear too much about this issue on the news, considering how many people it affects.

There is some coverage here too. I would think news channels like CNN and MSNBC could be covering this around the clock if they wanted to. It's a big enough story.

It's hard for me to understand why this isn't a huge news story. Such a major crisis, right in our own neighborhood, almost on our border.

They can't ignore it for long, but since it's not in the USA they'll ignore it for a while. It's a hard story for them since it includes history and race, they're afraid to get it wrong no doubt. Call in the scholars! Or this senator at least.
