Patrick Rushing is mayor Airway Heights, Washington. He has said some questionable things about the President and the First Lady. Rushing likened the Obamas to monkeys, an old racist trope, before suggesting they should be hanged. He then refused to resign because that would prove he’s racist. Cenk Uygur host of The Young Turks breaks it down.

It's possible. Not likely, but possible. I've never heard of the place, but plan to do a google search on the place. There are some towns that are the size of postage stamps, and if it happens to be a wealthy enclave in a serene, beautiful part of the state....well, very possible there are either damn few or no minorities; just a bunch of old white guys.

The Mayor has since made his page private. He has no problem spewing hate and bigotry but when it comes time to be accountable - can't handle it....

City Council members have called for Mayor Rushing to resign, but so far he has refused, prompting the city attorney, Stanley Schwartz, to draft a resolution. Schwartz would not specify exactly what was going to be in the resolution, other than to say it would be about the future of Mayor Rushing's employment with the City of Airway Heights.

The resolution will have to be approved by the city councilmembers.

There is an Airway Heights city council meeting scheduled for Monday, July 20 to discuss the Mayor Rushing.

Mayor Rushing has said that his comments were made in jest and he did not mean them in a racist way. He initially apologized, then cited his right as an American to say whatever he wanted. In an executive session Monday night Mayor Rushing said he would not step down and was working to "put this behind him."
