May 10, 2012 UK_400,000 public sector workers protest against government's pension policy

Around 400,000 public sector workers took to the streets in London Thursday to protest against new austerity measures taken by their government.

From 12:00 to 14:00 Thursday afternoon, workers from the public sectors including healthcare, education and police, joined the protest.

According to the new plan, public workers can not retire until 68, meanwhile, employees in public sectors have to pay more every month for pension insurance. Prolonged work hours and lower pension have created much anger in the workforce.

Joining the demonstrations were around 20,000 police officers. This has been the largest protest of the police officers since 2008. Walking at the end of the demonstration, their counterparts on duty to maintain order at No. 10 Downing Street hurried as they passed by.
