(1,252 posts)We should thank them for being so transparent. This election will decide it all. Are we going to let them have it all and complete Bush's vision of an "ownership society" where they own us like slaves or are we going to say "Enough is enough - you can't have it all."
Could our choice really be any clearer than this? Any candidate that is backed by the $$$$$ is out as far as I am concerned. It's Bernie or - The unthinkable ideas like Jan Mickelson's will win.
We must stand together or our fates are sealed.

(5,439 posts)I'd like to share a few strong words with them. First they support torture, now slavery. I expect that we'll next hear one of them tell us that Jonathan Swift had it right when he published a satirical essay suggesting that we eat the babies of the disenfranchised.

Isn't "compelled labor" why many come over, because it's impossible make a living at home?
I don't mean to promote stereotypes or anything, but aren't a lot of illegal immigrants here because they HAD to do something dangerous to survive and support their families? It's like the last hope. Otherwise, they'd just do the legal thing, no? Why does he think they risk so much to get here? Because they're bored? (he probably thinks they come here just to sell drugs or something.... not to get away from drug cartels)
I have sympathy for those who are here because of hope for something better than their "home" country.
With media people like this guy and the GOP in general, I hope for something better in MY home country!!!

(56,828 posts)they've been pushing towards this goal for years - just haven't said it outright. Abolishing the minimum wage and the safety net, increasing household debt, etc. Keep it up, and pretty soon you get the "Taxpayer Debt Relief" program where you can work (for free) until your debt is paid off.
On a humorous note, many years back here on DU (maybe 2005 or 2006?), I posted here on DU that I had seen a young woman in Connecticut driving a car with a confederate flag bumper sticker. She also had a "Nuke their ass and take their gas" bumper sticker as well. So, I made the response that how would we retrieve the "gas" from the nuclear wasteland? So, somebody on here made the sarcastic comment, "they would send the illegal immigrants there to do it."

(14,569 posts)who says outrageous things to get more people to listen. But if you think about neoliberal capitalism and the direction this country is going with the GOP crazy conservatives in the US Congress and state legislatures, his statement becomes horrifying, as opposed to merely horrible. Because with the dehumanization of Americans perpetrated these last several decades by the GOP, it is the next logical step. We must remember that sadly, people LISTEN to this cretin and we must assume that many of his listeners actually AGREE with him.
This is why we need Bernie's political revolution. Because if we the people don't take back the government, it could happen.

(13,616 posts)And yes, I include the liberal ones who give the standard "The civil war was about state rights, yadda yadda" or "it's heritage note hate, yadda yadda."People like this fellow are EXACTLY why the Confederacy HAD to lose. We may not think there are people who would caryy it on to 2015, or perhaps we like to tell ourselves that whatever version of the CSA that survived would be more gentle, subtle, perhaps even less bigoted. The fact is, slavery, especially of browns and blacks, but by NO means limited to them, is a part of our culture, that we have only beaten back with the sort of effort it takes a heroin addict to not have that one more relapse. There are plenty, and not just the designated class clowns like Ann Coulter, that would gladly and completely pull this country back to where the only amendments respected are the first and second, and the first only because it allows churches. Yes, there may have indeed been many CSA fighting to get rid of slavery, but there would also be people, backed by the rich (like all radio jocks are) that would always say "well what about because of this?" which, to revisit the heroin analogy, is that sad same voice many "recovered addicts" hear before they did that "just one more time"and then become fodder for silent DU threads in memory of..
By the way, please think of people like this the next time people wonder why the BLM people put politeness aside. It's bad enough that high-tech lynchings (aka homicide by cop) has become routine, just like school shootings in general have become routine, and a thousand other horrors are now routine, but progress is fragile at best, and illusion at worst, and people like this will always be ready to roll back progress in favor of some golden age that, to paraphrase Tariq Ali "thankfully never was."
