(11,085 posts)as the 1,000 middle class people who make a similar combined income. They each have a car, but Hanauer doesn't buy 1,000 cars. They each buy a few pair of blue jeans, but he doesn't buy thousands. They go out to eat maybe one day a week. He doesn't go out to eat 1,000 times a week.

(11,085 posts)That's the great truth to take out of this. Customers create jobs. When consumer demand increases, it forces businesspeople, often against their will, to hire more workers. Hiring decisions have nothing at all to do with the size of executive bonuses or the size of billionaire's tax breaks.

(4,113 posts)Does he buy 200 cars for every one I buy? I don't think so. Does he eat 200 times as much food? No. That's the fallacy of trickle-down. Wealthy people already have all the disposable income to make discretionary purchases when they want. Cutting their taxes only further concentrates the wealth in this country.
