Sounds great! I liked her in the 1960s, but she sounds even better today. JDPriestly May 2012 #6

Goddamn, she is looking good! I think I am still a couple of years younger than she, and already my beard has become almost completely silver!

Anyway, the story behind this song (at least as it was circulated amongst my circle of folkie friends in California during the 60's) is that, for a while, she became addicted to the cough syrup that she was taking for a severe sore throat.

At any rate, I am sure that you will appreciate the inherent drama in her presentation of this song.

I was living in Oakland, California and got involved with supporting the Indians who were occupying Alcatraz Island in San Francisco Bay. A group of us organized an outdoor concert on the pier in San Francisco to pass the hat among the crowd to keep the Indians going. Hundreds of people came. I had befriended one of the Alcatraz Indians named Herbie Butler who was a friend of Buffy's. She did the concert for free. She was a very sweet young woman, very down to Earth.
