Operation Mockingbird: CIA Manipulation of the Media

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Rhiannon12866 (a host of the Video & Multimedia forum).

- This is the primary reason why the MSM can't and won't ever tell the TRUTH. Some think the Church Committee hearings put a stop to this. It didn't. They examined the mistakes they made, and endeavored to not make the same mistakes again, so they don't get caught.......

The turds learned from the Church Committee. Poppy Bush was sent to zip up for poor old Colby letting the "Family Jewels" hang out.

Three Things Every American Should Know about Corporate McPravda.

Thank you for the excellent video, DeSwiss. Viddy well, little Alex.

"As nightfall does not come at once, neither does oppression. In both instances, there is a twilight when everything remains seemingly unchanged. And it is in such a twilight that we all must be most aware of change in the air -- however slight -- lest we become unwitting victims of the darkness."

Fox News, Anonymous, the consolidation of media, the end of the Cold War all have changed the landscape.

For better or worse there is no need for the CIA to spend money on domestic propaganda.

To control and manipulate because in that is power.

Oh for a world where there were no secrets...what a pleasant place that could be.

...and all those changes you mention made it easier for them to manipulate the media. And confuse the populace. As you comments aptly bear out.

- You probably believe that the police are there to protect and serve too, huh?

They have privatized propaganda and some billionaires, like Murdoch, prefer to add some of their own.

On the other hand information is freer than ever but now few seek the truth. They seek instead information and viewpoints that agree with the beliefs they already hold. The formula is the same as in Roman times -- bread and circuses -- and we are obese and over-stimulated. What is employed is not so much propaganda as distraction, suppression and appeals to personal comfort.

Commercial television is full of propaganda: Celebrity Apprentice, Dancing with the Stars, American Idol, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, The Daily Show -- but the CIA is not spending any of its budget to produce Dancing with the Stars or any of the others (except maybe some of the guests on TDS).

A recent study showed about 30% of internet traffic is porn.

...as I watched the news and read about the Church hearings in the newspapers at the time when it was happening. The passage of time does not delimit the CIA's aims nor their capabilities, rather they've used the time to expand and improve their techniques.

My point was not with respect to the Internet's role in all this per se (where the youngsters get their news from), but the MSM's role as my note above in the OP indicates. That is where the bulk of the propaganda is spewed out to the masses who still rely upon this poisoned fount for their information.

As for the porn issue, I ask -- who benefits? I know who gets off, but who benefits financially or from some other kind of metric that we can't fully comprehend from our present perspective? Who really owns all of these porn websites? Deep Throat told us to: ''Always follow the money." In this case it's problematic to do so. But the use of distraction is another useful ploy a government (shadow or otherwise) can use to defuse the masses. And distract them from paying attention to the reality happening all around them, as we quickly proceed to hell in our own personal handbaskets of orgasmic bliss.

- Likewise, if 30% of the potential troublemakers are at home fapping to porn, then they're not out in the streets causing trouble, and protesting against NATO, eh?
