I didn't see this posted and thought it was such a much needed clarification to remind these Republican political amateurs of the job description of the president that I wanted to give it its own thread. Since Dubya's election, every time I've heard republicans tout the business experience of another nominee or candidate for president I've wanted to scream "No! The presidency is not a business! It's totally different!" So glad the President is not ceding ground to business experience as a claim on the White House.
"And so, if your main argument for how to grow the economy is, 'I knew how to make a lot of money for investors,' then you're missing what this job is about. It doesn't - it doesn't mean you weren't good at private equity, but that's not what my job is as president."

(2,307 posts)I was in a conversation with a right winger several months ago, back when it was really questioned if Romney would be the nominee.
He told me we need a "CEO" from a successful company who know how to run a business to be president (he did not say Romney). I told him I felt that was the last thing we need. A CEO's job is to make profit. Doing so by not caring who he hurts in the process. This of course didn't faze him. He stood firm, that he wanted our country ran by a heartless CEO, who would lower taxes and cut spending.
Sadly, too many do want our country ran like a business. Obama needs to repeat this many, many time before November.
