(196,502 posts)It would have to be big to store the grain or to be a Pharoah's grave? The next part - I really don't have any idea what this is supposed to mean or what the point could be.
"Now all the archeologists think that they were made for the pharaohs graves. But, you know, it would have to be something awfully big if you stop and think about it. And I dont think itd just disappear over the course of time to store that much grain."

Here is my theory.... too many people in this country look strictly on the top soil of things. They don't dig deeper into anything. Case in point. The new Kentucky governor claims he is going to get rid of medicaid and the insurance exchange. He was voted in...why? is it because most people in Kentucky don't want health insurance, no... they didn't dig deep enough to understand this guy is going to screw them. They looked just enough too see he supported that wack job clerk.....Same with Carson supporters. They see just enough that he was this great Neurosurgeon, but not deep enough to see his views are very very off course. You want to believe in GOD... I have ZERO problem with that, but when you are going to influence govt policy with it......time to dig deeper..

The pyramids at Giza are marvels of engineering and there are many theories, from the mundane to fantastic, surrounding their construction.
There are all kinds of theories on how the Great Pyramid of Giza was built so many theories that you just sit back and shake your head. That includes ET visitations, levitating the blocks with some sort of sound system.
One place we can learn a lot about Egyptian stone-cutting methods is from the so-called unfinished obelisk.[1]

AlbertCat
(17,505 posts)To begin with, it's a hypothesis, not a theory, because there is zero to back even part of it up.
Never mind that the Egyptians themselves kept copious records of how and why and who built the pyramids.
Besides, there ARE Ancient Egyptian granaries, and they are not the Pyramids.

(4,695 posts)Joseph had 2 Egyptian wives. The Tribe of Joseph, a family in large number, left Egypt when Moses lead the Twelve Tribes to the Promised Land (back to Canaan and west across the Jordan River) after the Hebrew Israelites wondered in the deserts for 40 years. (Moses was not allowed to enter the promised land but died on the East side of the Jordan River after handing the task to Joshua.)
One of Pharaoh's dreams, that Joseph interpreted, was to store up 7 years of grain for the 7 year drought, that would follow.
IMO, Carson believes that he is a son of the Jacob, therefore, a son of Seth, youngest brother to Cain and Able. Some religions teach that Blacks are the sons of Cush, son of Cain (who manslaughtered Able). Seems like Carson is another charismatic dominionist like Ted Cruz.

(4,788 posts)For the reason the pyramids are so,big - pharaoh. See Ben, the ancient Egyptians were ruled by a king called a Pharaoh. It literally means Great House and refers to the, palace. Sort of like our use of White House to fill in for the President. Pharaohs were gods on earth and in the afterlife as well, so,they wanted really big, grand tombs. Hence the pyramids.

They were Corporations, not individuals.
Joseph used caves along the rift valley "the Dead Sea"
to store grain. These caves also kept the scrolls dry.

(38,213 posts)...that the story dates back hundreds of years, such as in the 14th century work, The Book of John Mandeville
So yes, Carson is regurgitating centuries-old speculation while ignoring the fact that in the time since then people haven't needed to guess. The places have been explored, the language has been deciphered, we're able to learn about this stuff. But a brain surgeon can't, or rather, won't.

(27,461 posts)is that the pyramids are in Egypt, which is where his Bible story took place. That's the only thing his theory has going for it.

(27,461 posts)we read a story in school about a leprechaun that broke open a rock and there was a potato inside, and that's why we have potatoes. I answered a question in class that revealed that I believed that was the real origins of potatoes. My classmates informed me amid much mockery that it was just a story.
I'm embarrassed that that occurred in third grade. But at least I wasn't running for president.
