I'd say he was a very lucky Salamander but he was found...

They have similar Salamanders in Japan don't they?

and if someone wants it bad enough it could be killed and taken to some very rich restaurant where it will be cooked up by the finest chef and sold to the highest bidder for a meal. Though i wonder if anything that old would be any tastier than something younger and more spry.
