(9,895 posts)This stuff happens in wars and has since warriors started collecting ears and noses and scalps...
War is a hideous and all-encompassing thing for those involved in it. The civilians, the combatants, the families of all...none of them are as untouched or removed as the American population has been from this god-awful war on terrorism. The greatest crime of Bush the Lesser was his dumbing down of war to fit into the videogame montage that those soldiers reflected in that clip.
Bush "landing" on an aircraft carrier, the lack of shared sacrifice from all levels of society in the form of taxation to PAY FOR these wars of choice, the jingoistic nonsense that was spewed from all corners following 9/11/2001 and the relentless manipulation of the media to cheerlead the efforts by questioning the patriotism of anyone opposed. The chilling thing about this video is not that it exists...that is a direct by-product of what should be terrifying everyone repulsed by that video - the same sons of bitches who were responsible for creating the climate and mindset that directly leads to those images (the rightwing chicken hawks of Cheney's vision for foreign policy) are now starting to fall in line behind a puppet with potentially LESS spine than the Shrub.
To borrow from Jack Cafferty - "If that doesn't scare you to death, then it should."
The next time won't be in the scrub lands of Afghanistan - these people have their eyes fixed on a full blown war with Iran, and it will become World War III in short order unless they are stopped NOW!
Be horrified by those images, but show them to everyone you know and then explain to them that the policies of Bush led to a military that teeters on the edge of control and is seeking a new rubber stamp at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. in November. Fight them now politically, or realize that failure to do so will be seen in the history books as appeasement.
