(7,632 posts)The song alone is worth the price of admission. A stroke of genius. If you are too young to recognize this song, you will come to love it from this ad. The lyrics are the epitome of the art of songwriting in the '60s.

(24,324 posts)I remember exactly where I was the first time I heard this song.. 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee, in a friends house having dinner with his wife and two little girls, sitting in the living room around a large, low round oak table with an ersatz Tiffany lamp above it.

(3,666 posts)in a crowds of thousands. one looked like a campaign worker. he briefly hugged one.
Especially for a democratic party that is fall more multiethnic than the Republican party, this is a pathetically homogeneous ad. I know it's playing Iowa and New Hampshire, which are both wonder bread white states. But this is supposed to represent America rising up in support of Sanders. Looks like just a slice of America. This is what you'd expect from Republican ad makers and their vision of America.

(10,943 posts)...if Hillary made it, the media spin would be that it made her appear "old" and "part of the past." So, it's good she didn't do one... and, good Bernie did it at exactly the right time. It might sell a few downloads for Paul Simon and maybe it will chart again!

(36,988 posts)Art Garfunkel issued a statement on Friday explaining why he gave his approval to the campaign of Bernie Sanders to use the Simon & Garfunkel song America in a new political ad.
In comments released through his publicist, Garfunkel said that he never wanted to gain an influence on the public through my songs, and then use it for my politics. Its bait and switch.
But he also explained how the song is meant to have universal resonance, while its also relevant to current issues, including what is being talked about on the campaign trail. He cited xenophobia, and said, Now I believe the monied interests have gone too far and have rigged the system. Sanders campaign is focused on Wall Street and campaign finance corruption, and he has condemned remarks that Donald Trump has made about Mexicans and Muslims.

The ad is pure genius ... simple, short and uplifting

(11,433 posts)Of course it is for what we are striving, A more perfect union. Why we have courts and laws and social programs. Why we open our hearts to the world and work together as a nation with respect to all people.
When things get bad we must pull together to make them better. Bernie has made us realize this again.
WE are responsible to run our country not the very wealthy few. It's our time to rise and be responsible.
Thank you, Bernie.
