Which of OUR candidates are best able to beat this clown? The specter of a Trump flag flying over the White House looms large in the future if we can't get that right...

I personally would hope that either Dem candidate will prevail over this clown, but then again, I never imagined that Bush Jr. would get so many people to vote for him...

As much as we can all make fun of this delta bravo, he is opening all of our eyes even more than the election of President Obama has about just how racist this country still is.

I've been looking at various articles (touting Rump) but am not seeing numbers.

How many registered Pukes in NV and how many voted?

I saw numbers for Democrats...400,000+ registered and only 80,000+ cast ballots...pretty pathetic.

1. Is PPP a reputable polling source.

2. If so then why is anyone surprised because it is South Carolina after all.

Finally how the hell did the republicans not see this coming?

I am not a Trump supporter but I confess there are days I wish Lincoln had let the South go. Slavery was on the way out anyway from what I have read. And the South has been a thorn in the side of the rest of the county most of my lifetime.

24. The fate of slavery in an independent CSA

You write, "Slavery was on the way out anyway from what I have read." I haven't read much on the question but this seems dubious to me.

Before the Civil War, there was some talk about ending slavery by having the government buy and free all the slaves. The idea never got anywhere because it just wasn't economically practical. Slavery was such a huge economic benefit to the people who could benefit from other people's forced labor that the market value of all the slaves was staggering.

In an independent CSA, there would have been some abolitionists, and their numbers might even have increased over time, with a growing moral awareness of the horror of slavery. But the economics would still have been there. Abolition with compensation would have been unaffordable. Abolition without compensation would have dealt a huge blow to the net worth of most of the richest and most powerful people in the new country. How, exactly, would that have come about through peaceful political processes?

All that said, it is interesting to speculate about what the United States would be like today without those eleven states. The political center would be much more to the liking of most DUers!
