(67,782 posts)....aborted interview. His attitude has alienated his peers in Congress AND in Vermont, too! Just the fact that he couldn't even get support from his own Governor, fellow Senator, or even the current mayor of his home town.
That says quite a bit about his demeanor and ability to accomplish anything. If he's pissing off everyone around him, how is he possibly going to get anything done as President?

(14,157 posts)Sanders has never shown any inclination to support right wing groups like the Minutemen. Look at his history in fighting for civil and social rights. It's important for the country to see that he hasn't taken anger management to heart just because he wants us to make him commander and chief. Don't you believe that we should know how a person should behave under pressure when they want to be the POTUS?
Bernie couldn't even answer a hard question in an interview he agreed to. This is not a good sign. It should be seen by as many people as possible before they vote and it's their business how they interpret it. If you don't think it's a big deal, let America judge for themselves.

(2,222 posts)It quickly became clear that it was a hostile, right-wing interview designed not to have a discussion, but to smear. It was absolutely the right call of Bernie's to summarize his main positions, thank the interviewer, and move on--which is precisely what he did.
The only people I see trying to make a big deal out of this are extreme right-wing Trump supporters on YouTube and a few die-hard Hillary supporters on DU. Funny that.

(1,150 posts)as opposed to the standard playbook vocabulary of saying absolutely nothing, repeatedly, until 'journalists' just get tired and decide that asking direct questions is pointless.
I see this 'not ready' theme among detractors of of Bernie Sanders and I ask myself - where is the interview reference manual that is used to assess whether a person it 'Presidential' or not? Because, apparently, one must behave in very particular ways to meet the determining set of criteria, like maintaining a certain type of posture and only publicly demonstrating displeasure with other people's behavior in a carefully poised, 'we're all pals here,' demeanor, even though the other person is rotten son of a bitch and you hate everything he/she represents.
I've never seen this manual but it appears to have been circulated extensively, as I am hearing much about how 'not ready' Bernie Sanders is to be President. There must be very specific standards for this evaluation, or else it's complete bullshit.

(81 posts)and yet, they won't ask Hillary about toppling democratically-elected governments and murdering activists so our corporations can exploit their natural resources:
"The Clinton-brokered election did indeed install and legitimate a militarized regime based on repression. Cáceres called it 'counterinsurgency,' carried out on behalf of 'international capital'mostly resource extractorsthat has terrorized the population, murdering political activists by the high hundreds. 'Every day,' Cáceres said elsewhere, 'people are killed.'"

(14,358 posts)What exactly was the question he answered? We'll never know because he interrupted the interviewer with a pre-canned speech.
Had this been Hillary Clinton who had done this the criticism against her would be extreme and unrelenting. "Queen Hillary shows disdain for the peasants", or some such tripe. Sanders should not get a free pass on this either. He was dismissive and rude. Definitely not one of his shining moments.

(12,448 posts)You don't get to walk off when you're President of the United States; not if you expect to have any semblance of relations with the media.
You also don't get away with launching into your unrelated stump speech when asked a question.
You also can't get away with being testy and rude, interrupting repeatedly, without getting crucified by the media. Your true believers may defend you but no one else will.
Nickel79
(81 posts)If they don't, what you said ends up being correct. That's the way this game works.
For example, HRC has the most checkered background of ANY candidate, and yet she's barely being scrutinized. She gets softball questions and glad-handing. How well do you think she'd do in the primaries or general if the media had any scruples and decided to scrutinize her involvement with Honduras? Never mind, we all know the answer to that one--her campaign would be dead in the water.

Not surprisingly, Berta Caceres was murdered not long after making these statements. But yeah, let's talk about "real issues" like Bernie's wife and Sheriff Joe. Distraction journalism at its best.
NastyRiffraff
(12,448 posts)You must be when you say she's "barely being scrutinized." Hillary Clinton is one of the most scrutinized candidates in modern campaign history. It started nationally when she was First Lady (anyone remember Vince Foster?) and has continued unrelentingly ever since. She was accused of murder! And vilified because she didn't divorce Bill. (If she HAD, she would have been vilified by the Right for not standing by her man like a good girl).
Bernie is getting a pass now. He would not (nor should he) if he were in the White House.
Nickel79
(81 posts)but the mainstream media has done little to fully examine the mountains of questionable material in her background. They've all but ignored recent events in Honduras, much of which was set forth by Clinton's actions as Sec. of State. They don't pin her down on plans or demand further elaboration during debates.
I could go on and on, but I think it would be pointless. You support her, and I respect that. Just don't be so blind to the obvious disparity in media coverage and scrutiny. We aren't doing her any favors if she's the nominee, because this information will NOT be suppressed when the general election rolls around.
As for Bernie, they don't have any dirt so they fabricate misinformation regarding the reasoning for an immigration reform vote, and then accuse him of having unrealistic goals. I seem to remember quite a few people saying the same about people like Martin Luther King, Jr.
NastyRiffraff
(12,448 posts)The "mainstream media" piled on, pushing the faux "scandal" that was Whitewater, treating the Vince Foster murder charge like it was a legitimate story, and less serious things: scrutinizing Hillary's hair, cookie baking or lack of it, she smiled too much or not enough. This woman could do nothing right. I worked for the Washington Post at the time; I know what the mindset was. Reporters were chortling in the Post cafeteria about the "fun" they were having with her as a subject. Don't tell me the media didn't fully examine her; they would have demanded a vaginal examination with them watching if they could.
BTW, If you want to compare Bernie with MLK, you're certainly free to; I strongly disagree.
Nickel79
(81 posts)...that's what makes this country great. I'm certain we could spend hours - or even days - debating what was. HRC deserved the media attention because scandals follow her (and her husband) literally everywhere she goes, so she has no one to blame other than herself for providing the media with ammo.
All of that aside, I'm more interested in what is, and the current state of affairs surrounding the media and the democratic primary has shown me that there are few ethical journalists employed by the mainstream media. If there are, they certainly won't go against the grain of coronating HRC and ignoring Sanders. She's getting a pass, and that's part of the reason why you won't hear any mention of her and Berta Caceres in the same breath. In fact, the mainstream media is barely touching on the Caceres murder. Additionally, she's by far the biggest flip-flopper of all time in American politics, but the media is giving her a pass. Why?
Don't believe me? Listen to her own words:
That amount of flip-flopping and then lying about it is absolutely sickening. She could just say she "changed her mind," but she repeatedly makes excuses for what she's said, plays the context game, etc. She's a liar, there's no way around it.
As for your last sentence, who do you think MLK would vote for? I can tell you it's not HRC. Bernie has stood by his convictions for DECADES. He's the same guy with the same beliefs, and he's not a slave to the establishment. Does that make him presidential? Not necessarily, but he's the most honest guy on the stage by far.
Anyway, nice chatting with you Nasty. It's nice to live in a country where we can disagree and speak our minds.
NastyRiffraff
