(5,106 posts)McConnell and many Repugs are behaving as if they know something about the upcoming election that we don't. After Karl Rove's televised freak-out in 2012 when some results didn't go as he expected, I have to wonder. I hope those like "Anonymous" and others stay on the ball. I'm not happy with electronic vote counting, still prevalent after revelations about the companies involved. And electoral vs. popular vote? Don't get me started. If changes weren't made after 2000, I don't expect to ever see them in my lifetime.
Thinkingabout
(30,058 posts)Machines for several years and even had one who thought he could prove the machines did not work and failed to the hanging Chad system which was a total failure to the electronic voting. I will remain on the side of the machines. Even the mechanical devices to count the punch ballots had many flaws.

(5,106 posts)I'm not following as to what "hanging chads" have to do with electronic voting (not being a wise ass, just would like it explained). I'd add that
I've been a poll watcher over many local elections: paper ballots, but ultimately an electronic scan.
Thinkingabout
(30,058 posts)They toyed with them long enough to steal the presidential election. I have voted or lets say I attempted to vote using the punch system, never was sure if I actually punched the right Chad because the paper ballot moved around. Knowing how inaccurate the machines are to count votes using the punch system I never had any confidence in the results.
I have worked precincts and in Texas there are lots of checks and cross checks during the day, paper ballots are probably much less accurate despite some wanting them to remain.

(5,106 posts)I just had different impression from your original post. As much as I'm familiar with PA voting (and the party line primary voting is annoying, but seems impervious, regardless of complaints to the PTB who're apparently deaf), I'll admit to getting confused as to the the deal in various states (and I've lived and voted in PA, W.Virginia a and Kentucky--but only politically active in PA). It's insane that we don't have a smooth system over the entire country( as well as getting rid of the electoral college). Both parties finding those anachronisms OK seems pretty suspicious. Paper ballots with the proper marking pencil? Works in educational tests without complaint, so how hard can it be?

(30,058 posts)properly, when the cards are read there are errors. I do not like to be negative and perhaps there isn't a perfect but the conspiracy theory is overboard.
Wellstone ruled
(34,661 posts)and that is,McConnell said he was not going to recognize the legitimacy of Obama's reelection in any way shape or form.. And he was going to do what ever it takes to prevent any Democratic Legislation to move on the Senate Floor.

(5,106 posts)who probably offered as much cooperation as the Repugs could expect to see, but still was hit with impeachment. WHOA! As serious as it can get on flimsy, personal grounds (JFK would have been toast immediately after his inauguration with today's GOP), President Obama, being a minority (really mixed racial, as is increasingly prevalent in the non-Republican world these days) made the hidebound Republicans absolutely insane. This is a dying party unless they really join the modern world. "Angry, less educated White Guys" are no longer the majority,( increasingly well-educated but jobless people are growing) and many of those are too intelligent to keep voting against their ultimate real interests when they stop to reflect and are challenged ( whether they admit it), as at least, some will after the heat of the moment. Sticking to so many failed policies will definitely kill the Republican party. At seventy years old, though, I'm afraid I won't see it. I grew up with the "loyal opposition" form of government. The hate for Democrats by Republicans these days is amazing. If the Dems start to return it, we're truly lost. I grew up with a mom active in Democratic politics in a very Republican town. My dad voted mostly as a Democrat, but felt he had to register Republican work-wise. Both parents always voted for our Republican state senator because they truly thought he did a great job. I still remember on a student visit to our state capitol, when our Republican state senator greeted us, and THEN told us he'd arranged for us to meet the governor, a Democrat. They obviously had a very cordial relationship. What has happened in the fifty years since?

(5,106 posts)I'm most concerned as to when the truly vicious attitude the Republicans have toward the Democrats began, and would hate to see this become mutual. As a former resident (although not a native) of Kentucky, I never was there at the time to vote for Mitch McConnell, but felt his opponent, in the last election, Alison Grimes, was piss-poor for blowing off President Obama.

(10,270 posts)Short of that, ummm no prolly not ever.
As an aside, the Senate is apparently staffed with nothing but cowards. If one little judge poses an existential threat to the entire post-nixon conservative counter-revolution, then that 'revolution' is pretty fucking fragile in the first place. If I were Yertle, I would go find the most blood-thirsty liberal attorney I could and stick him up there, cause if I really believed in what I was selling, fuck that guy he ain't no threat...even from the Bench.
That Mitch is being cautious and craven means he already knows he lost the fight. Let's make him PAY FOR IT THIS TIME.
