I'm all for it though.

Packing heat should be a requirement for admission to the convention...No Heat? No See Donny.

Of course, any same person can see why we wouldn't want everyone walking around packing heat, but if your position is to guarantee this "right," then you really can't turn around and ban it, can you? If you want all of America to be Dodge City, then Cleveland is Dodge City, too.

(11,519 posts)From what I've read nearly all 'wild west' towns banned the carry of firearms outside of your home because residents didn't want the violence that would be a natural consequence of such 'open carry'. Illegally carrying a firearm resulted in arrest - in other words there was 'gun control' in the wild west, and nobody was complaining about their second amendment rights back then.

But yes, they want them so bad, let them live with it and see how "secure" they feel!
Mr.Bill
(24,288 posts)They wouldn't need the Secret Service. Because, you know, it's impossible to be killed if you're a good guy with a gun, right?

(53,235 posts)Now it's about 12,000 and says it needs 3,000 to reach 15,000. So when it passes 15,000, will it have to reach 20,000? Are these movable goal posts?
Bad Dog
(2,025 posts)They set a target, then if/when it's reached they set another target. They do it with all petitions not just this one. I'm sure there's a good reason. Maybe it encourages people to sign if they feel they're likely to meet a goal.
valerief
(53,235 posts)find a reason, so your explanation makes the most sense.
Bad Dog
(2,025 posts)That got a response from the government. 100,000 made sure it was considered in parliament, but after that they still kept setting goals. Then as it was already to be debated the more signatures before the debate the better.

Guns to prevent a brokered convention!

(25,111 posts)Inasmuch as I dislike them and they would never consider me as a patriot because I do not believe in their crapola ideology, I still wish no harm on them. That said, GOPers (NRA) want everyone to be able to carry a gun anywhere in the USA except to their convention and the NRA's headquarters.

(8,380 posts)I live in a very red, rural county in Virginia, and the school system does teach evolution, not "Jesus did." Plenty of scientists, engineers, and professionals among the students who studied and wanted an education.

(1,615 posts)i'd also like to point out that most secondary schools are real bad places to learn things, even if it is only jesus. one's academic inclinations are certainly not the deciding factor.

(6,679 posts)I don't see how they can possibly stay safe without that. If everyone brings one gun then one side of their body will be at risk.
Really, why can't the NRA just pull up with a couple tractor trailers full of automatic guns and hand one out at the gates as people come in?

(38 posts)A convicted felon shot a young man at a gas station for playing his boom box to loud. Orlando Fl area, last week. Another shot his friend over a tax return. We live in an angry country whose citizens know down deep that our laws are designed to benefit and protect the rich from the poor. An angry populace, is a violent populace. Easy access to guns, even felons, is insane. In my county you have to register, and pay fee, for your dog, but guns? The more the better....right wing logic.

(1,615 posts)personally i think they suck at their job and as we see repeatedly here at DU: racist af. i wish women would start complaining too because apparently rape and domestic violence are cool because women are liars (or, infrequently, inexplicably attack a guy twice as large as they are further skewing the statistics WOMEN ARE RAPISTS TOO!!11).
i'm all for gun control but can we make sure our criminal justice system works first? my trust in judges and police officers atm hovers right around zero.

(1,558 posts)....how close firearms are allowed to be carried in proximity to the candidates.
And since the Secret Service, under the current Obama administration, has to follow guidelines set up by Obama, it will be OBAMA'S FAULT if they do not allow guns at the convention.
Thanks, Obama.
Seriously, I am pro-2nd Amendment, but I will concede, those that came up with this petition scenario have my respect for their cleverness.

(785 posts)I think it works the other way too. What kind of nut job wouldn't want to see a whole lot of well armed, paranoid and angry Republican pols confront each other? This is a once in four year opportunity to thin their herd. Since they gerrymandered and primaried out their natural predators they have bred like crazed monkeys and are a menace to public safety. You can't swing a confederate flag over your head without hitting one of them. But here's a thought. Lock em in the convention hall with automatic weapons, turn out the lights withTed Nugent anthems at eardrum bleed volume and let God sort it out.

(750 posts)Since Trump has been appearing irrationally weird to squirrely he should be drug tested. Listen closely and you might notice Trumps nasal cocaine resonance. Definitely a sign of the one percent culture that rant of good health to feel no pain.
That goes for all who participate in the rally. Actually a good idea for all the candidates to show a drug, and alcohol test every month before election.
Whats interesting and fearful is Ohio does not have any background checks for gun sales according to wiki.

(37,329 posts)To Islamic terrorists the GOP is a powerful recruiting tool. They would not mess that up. Also, IS prefers to kill nice people, so that means the GOP folks have nothing to worry about. Even though they do not like democracy, it will still be happening outside of their conclave.
