(14,177 posts)His clarification is as bad if not worse than his original statement. It looks like he is as unserious about running for president as his detractors have said. I am one of those that thought it was a joke gone horribly wrong then thought oh he is serious, nope I was right the first time his campaign is a joke.

(15,139 posts)never expected to get this far, and the support he's gotten, despite outrageous statements, has probably surprised him as much as anybody. With his ego, though, he's no doubt in it to win it now. If denied the nomination at a brokered convention, I wouldn't be surprised if he decided to play spoiler snd launch an independent effort.

(14,177 posts)what. But, really he has to know that his remarks are going to hurt him a whole lot if not by tanking him being the nominee it will tank him in the general. So, I am thinking it was a joke from the beginning. And like you said he was surprised. But, it also seems he doesn't really want the nominations who says they could kill someone and then says women should be punished then says oh only doctors performing a medical procedure? It makes him sound like a crazy person. Even if he believes those things he has to be aware that most people would think those things he says are crazy. Therefore, I believe he is actively trying to sound like a nutcase to blow up his own campaign. I have no idea why he would do that. And he might even play it out to the bitter end at the convention. Maybe it's all just entertainment to him.

(5,813 posts)Is he really in it to win? Is it all a joke (or entertainment, a stunt or to shake things up?). Who knows? We've all weighed in on this subject and every day something else happens or he says something to create buzz.
More important than all of our opinions and conjecture is the fact that this man (love him or hate him) has managed to suck the oxygen out of this campaign. He has FIERCELY LOYAL supporters who apparently have no standard that he could cross that would make them abandon their devotion to Trump.
Whether by accident or design Trump has ripped the scab off the wounds of the nation exposing the rampant racism, misogyny and xenophobia that many of us thought were in the past or at least were fading. Not so. And now we know the extent of the problem and it is not minor.

(14,337 posts)His followers will support him no matter what he says. Trump is almost like a god figure to them. I am sure you know the other analogy others have given. Applies too. Mass hysteria worked up into a frenzy. Take your pick of either.

(750 posts)A privatized Gitmo seems practical to the current conservative mind. It appears as a fond ideal having the spirt of MBAs managing those academic passionate rogue MBA types that abuse the Gaussian error function better known as the derivative in the classic calculus taught by the university system.
Rather than bailout, new laws to load into a modern new age Hague Stalag the American neo-conservative liberal approach to mental creepy MBAs that abuse culture, business, and government.
Why not Trump is ahead of his time making ready Trump Towers in Chicago as the new-age Gitmo for rehabilitating academics that wander in a mental walking dead culture of convoluted deception bailing out by Congressional metaphor encouragement were it is considered the same as eating their own.
Imaging Trump Towers franchise across the country were convicted derivative violators can be incarcerated with implanted monitors that explode upon a public apprentice program, instead of someone being fired they explode. This genre is to the American idol TV series only triggered by the popular mainstream media securing the naive social media types.
The moral of the story is to illustrate how the corporate media today directs behavior rather than deliver news, and Trump will make money on it, thats not presidential, it's profiteering with Bush support.

(9,841 posts)He couldn't live up the scrutiny or the workload of a US President, esp. with the precedent Barack Obama has set. He doesn't want to do a job that strenuous. He never has and never will work that hard.

(35 posts)May be I am missing something... If the premise is that abortion is outlawed (as in illegal to perform except under certain circumstances - not arguing whether that is wrong or right, just assuming it is illegal), what should be the consequence for breaking such a law? Wasn't that what Chris M was asking? How are you going to prevent it unless you have some form of punishment etc. etc... Not a big fan of either DJT or CM, but seems to me that it is a dumba** question with a crazy premise that elicited a dumba** response.
If I break the posted speed limit, should I tell the officer that I should not get a ticket?

(2,073 posts)DT isn't exactly a nuanced thinker and abortion is an issue with about a million nuances. With that being said, I believe conservative Republicans would love to imprison women who have abortions, and I think DT had a moment of actual clear logic going on there.

(4,113 posts)He cannot think on the fly. He draws from his lizard brain and just blurts out the first instinctive thing that pops up. If he had not inherited his wealth, he'd be a street peddler or something similar.
Every time I see Trump campaign signs posted around where I live, I wish I had a can of gasoline to douse and torch the signs.
