(53,872 posts)But what was the deal with the last part?
Obviously from a movie but why was that spliced onto something real?

I didn't even bother to watch the video because I'm sick and tired of these people. I've seen it all before.

(15,041 posts)I find such people amusing, hardly worth risking a stroke to berate them. Maybe that's what her obsession with his "grey" underwear is about.
Or maybe she just took her Mama's admonition too close to heart, and always insists that everyone wear clean underwear all the time, because you never know when you have to be taken to a hospital and have your clothes cut off.
(Though most likely, she's just nuts.)

Still to this day one of the best horror movies of all time.

(6,695 posts)I'm not excusing it - I'm just saying if I'm supposed to make a decision on this situation why doesn't the filmer give us the WHOLE situation.

(37,162 posts)...without the silly edits for slo-mo and the "American Werewolf" clip. It continues with the guy talking to other hospital personnel about what happened.
It's a pretty fair bet that the video doesn't show the start of it because he didn't pull the camera out and begin recording until after it was already in progress.

(6,344 posts)People with brain disorders or mental health issues have behaviors like this.
I only watched a minute of this, it is sad actually. We can see she is not well.

(1,074 posts)You were asking where the beginning part of the video is (the part that got her angry). Well, that part couldn't be recorded, I'm sure, because he didn't know that whatever he did, would cause such a reaction. He could have done something as simple as asking her a question like "excuse me ma'am...where are the restrooms?" That simple question could have been the start of her going off on him! Maybe with a racist, just seeing a black person with his underwear showing, is something that could be the start of setting her off!

(4,552 posts)The women clearly has mental health issues.
That man knows she is having a break so why taunt her. That video may be the cruelest thing I have seen in years. It is like poking a dying animal why would you do that. Yea there is "something wrong with her" you creep. Rise above it and help her.
If this was a cop taunting this sick women the country would be outraged.
I make no excuses for bad cops or cops abusing people.
Our entire country needs to have sharp crack upside the head until we understand what mental health is.
That folks is face of mental health.

(53,872 posts)He knew she was having a break from reality. He repeated it numerous times. He thought it was funny. He is an insensitive "richard cranium" .
The guy who walked up at the end was the only person who showed any humanity.
People with mental illness deserve help and understanding. What if a black cop would have showed up. Would it be ok for him to choke her out???? Pepper spray her? No you would be outraged at that.
Her mental illness was very clear for any reasonable human to understand.
Help her.

(4,552 posts)You couldn't be more off base.
You need to gain an understanding of mental health and what it looks like and stop blaming everything on politics. That woman was sick and that man knew she was sick. He should have put down the camera and gotten help.

(53,872 posts)How? If he had touched that racist woman she would've went into an even crazier rage and someone could have gotten seriously hurt probably him when the cops came. No telling what they would have done to him if he had tried to restrain her.
Nah!
You're way off with that. He showed incredible restraint by not retaliating against her as she kicked and shoved and raged at him with racial slurs.
His constant questioning of her was taunting. He was enraging her and he KNEW it. Every time he opened his mouth the situation got worse. He thought it was funny
How many times did he say there is something the matter with that woman? Yea there is something the matter with her now back the f off and get some help. He was like a cat playing with a mouse until the mouse dies. Sickening.

They don't have good records when dealing with black guys. No telling what they would have done to him if he had tried to restrain her.

(26,219 posts)Along with a deep, deep sadness. Made me recall someone I knew (since passed) that had dementia and would get very angry when they were scared, confused, or sundowning. It is heartbreaking.

(4,552 posts)People who have witnessed this kind of break react differently than the general public. The general public thinks it is funny. It is not funny. It is very sad and the person needs help not taunting.
My mother would say some pretty strange things and get violent when sundowning. I apologized to the nurses one time and they made it real clear that they knew what was going on and understood it. They were very understanding and gentle
Which is why I want people to get a better education of what mental health is. We rail at the cops when they misread mental health issues yet the general public has no idea what it looks like.

kind of mutes the point.
Because this is an important video. It is the true face of life long racism. Her face is like the faces of those white high school students who so hated the brave black student, Elizabeth Eckford, in Arkansas, as she tried to integrate her high school in 1954.

The rage of this hospital volunteer is the face of the Klan, it's the face that lynches. It has not changed in over 200 years.
She does have a mental illness, but it's a socially sanctioned and socially created one.
I think it's the real feelings of the teabagger types when they see Obama sitting in the White House. They've become like this hospital aide.
The Civil War won't end in this country until we formally admit and acknowledge our true history. And make Reparations.

Glad the man received the apology he deserved. Hope this woman gets some help.
