1. Danny Trejo was a "thug" himself

He was a gang member and did time in prison. Upon his release, he was unable to find a job. He saw an ad in the paper for movie extras and responded. He was hired as he looked like a stereotypical gangster thug. He was cast for years in every action/crime movie made (over 200) in bit parts as a scary criminal. Eventually, he began getting bigger roles, as chief "bad guy" and later as hero and even leading man with Jessica Alba.

Now in his late sixties, he is using his celebrity to try to steer folks on to the right path. If only all our celebrities showed such commitment.
