The story behind Cenk being booted off the air by MSNBC, the supposedly Liberal network,(which we all know now is a total joke!!)
Uploaded on Jul 20, 2011
Cenk Uygur (host of The Young Turks) explains why he turned down a new, significantly larger MSNBC contract after hosting a prime-time show on the network that was beating CNN in the ratings. He also shares his thoughts on Rachel Maddow and Fox News.

(20,453 posts)... when Rachel towed the line for the corporation. I wonder if he would have a slightly different point of view over Rachel Maddow.
I dropped MSNBC, CNN before that, and WAAY before that, all the other water carriers. The internet is the only path to truth, and even there, you have trolls everywhere trying to drive the commentary.

(9,870 posts)even watch Rachel any more. Apart from her move to the center, she can't get over herself and it's hard to witness.

(50,983 posts)A free and fair media is essential to maintaining democracy. We can see that democracy is but a shell of its former self.
There are many thousands of paid corporate sock reptiles inhabiting the internet. You can see them every day on the DU and anywhere else you care to look. But that's not enough, the corporations must also infest all of print media, television and radio.
The nation is in very real trouble from an enemy far greater than any faked up terroristic threat.

Where you get the "biased opinion" from I don't know, or are you joking and I'm missing it?

The love of money is the root of all corruption as well as evil.

(5,276 posts)Nor did Keith, Ed, or Dylan. Rachel and Lawrence took big bucks over principle. I have lost all respect for both of them.
I have not watched that network awhile ago and have no plans to come back.
The good news is the Web, where you can get real progressive talk, and with a smart TV or enabled Blu Ray you can watch it on your TVs.

(2,949 posts)Rachael has been bought out as has Lawrence. MSNBC is off my watch list. TYT is the solution. Told a hard core right wing friend i no longer watch msnbc as it is too right wing for me. he was shocked but i told him to check it out. it currently is just another Trump system.

If someone says the United States cannot have single payer Medicare for All health care their credibility is forever shot. I'm just saying.

(23,882 posts)The USofA is a laughing stock in the real world. We have let feudal/vested interests control 99.99% of the health and welfare of the whole country.
Most of the rest of the world had a good purging in the last 100 years or so and has moved on to a fairly humanitarian view of rights.
The US is still holding on to its idea of superiority of white men that fled England's stifling religious constrictions ---- guess what?

(11,833 posts)I like The Young Turks, particularly Cenk and Ana. I watched this segment when it came out and it's interesting revisiting it a few years later. Much respect to Cenk for making that decision. I don't watch much cable television 'news.' I prefer being online or reading books.
Am I mistaken (because I haven't been watching much in the past year or so) or is Ana Kasparian not appearing as often on TYT? If anyone can provide more details on this, it would be appreciated. I enjoy hearing her take on things and especially enjoy when she and Cenk appear together.

(50,983 posts)and they have become little more than a less repulsive version of Fox "News". MSNBC mirrors the reality that we must face about the Democratic Party.
The corporations have determined that they do not want "We the People" to hear the truth. They only want us to hear a pack of lies that fit their agenda. Now the truth is nowhere to be heard on the mainstream media.
The truth is gone and democracy is gone. As a result the nation is in crisis.

(8,812 posts)This new one won't sell out.

Folks. Guess what? If you want a reliable network that doesn't corrupt its reporters or sell out to corporate interests, the only solution is a viewer/listener sponsored one. A truly listener/viewer sponsored one, not National rePublican Radio, for example, which continues to hoodwink listeners who remember its halcyon days. Those days have been gone for more than 20 years. Because NPR remains "smart," a lot of people mistakenly think it's still progressive, too. Trust me: It ain't.
As for MSNBC, assuming it ever took a truly "liberal" viewpoint (and I am inclined to doubt that), MSNBC did so not because it shared our progressive agenda or even because it valued the truth. It did so because it made its shareholders money and because it didn't threaten the powers-that-be. As soon as it no longer met those goals, bye bye liberal viewpoint.
What's the alternative? A true alternative? Listen/watch Democracy Now! specifically and Pacifica Radio in general. Another excellent option is TRNN, the Real News Network.
Follow the money and you won't be hurt when the next progressive network you pin your hopes on breaks your heart by going over to the dark side.
