(13,297 posts)buy shrimp directly, it has to say it is from 'Country-A'
but include that same shrimp in a dish, you can say 'Made in USA'
I noticed a tactic of Welch's Jelly -- they say in HUGE letter on their lids "100% North American Grown" -- is that a new way of saying 'from Mexico'? Their jar still can say 'Made in USA'

Too much for labels? It would be nice to find this online or through a qr code on the label.

(13,297 posts)hopefully all will have smartphones as prices come down, and people can dig as deep as they prefer and the companies can update without complaining about printing costs to change labels - FDA can keep track of their claims quickly too

(5,122 posts)That's a great angle. Minimal cost, extensive information.
Hmm... Maybe in Europe.
Here, we're sheep and we'll accept what we're fed without consequence.
Profits, you know.
And, a lack of representation in DC.

(13,297 posts)how software companies used to send 3.5" floppy disks or CD's with software updates
how fast that changed with quick internet speeds (whew!)

hopefully a smarter, more-informed generation with better sharing of info will adjust some of that going forward

(36,827 posts)There's already a ton of nutritional information on labels, and yet the per capita calorie consumption in the US is almost 4,000 calories per day with quite a bit of that coming from refined sugars. Smart phones make it ridiculously simple to keep track of what's going in. We should be better informed today than we ever have been about what goes into our bodies, yet obviously people aren't paying attention and don't really care.

(6,344 posts)The processed foods are the name brand items from huge companies and no way of knowing where the food comes from. It is getting harder to buy good food. I am grateful for my local food co-op.
