Related: About this forumBill Clinton to Bernie Supporters: If You Think Hillary Supporters are Establishment, “Don't Vote”
This is the smartest thing Bill Clinton ever said. "Vote for Sanders if you think Hillary & her supporters are part of the establishment." Well, you heard the man! Vote Sanders! #ByeHillecia #FeelTheBern

(58,724 posts)As long as they attack the Clintons.
This piece also makes the Bernie supporters look bad as well with selectively chosen quotes.
Typical for Fox News - and one of the reasons why I thought we aren't fans of that ridiculous network around here.
Incidentally, Bill Clinton does not say what the subject line says he says.
In any case, Fox News is garbage. One would think we would all agree on that.

(58,724 posts)In fact, it will be doing hit pieces like this on the Democrats throughout the election cycle, just as it does every election cycle (and the rest of the time also).
This Fox News video is a perfect encapsulation of what is wrong with the right-wing corporate media.

But did bill say that?
oberliner
(58,724 posts)They edited the Bernie supporters to choose two who do not reflect particularly well on Bernie.
And they edited a tiny section from a much longer Bill Clinton speech (and then the OP misrepresents what he actually said).
Again, this is standard Fox News tactics.

(58,724 posts)But I can't find the full speech.
Here is the remark in question verbatim:
"For 45 years, I have watched her do things I did not think anybody could do, almost all of that time as a private citizen. In the democratic primary, youve got two people that voted together 93 percent of the time. More than 90 percent of the people who served with both of them have endorsed Hillary. If you believe that they did it just because theyre part of some corrupt political establishment and theres no difference in Republicans and Democrats, you shouldnt vote for her. But if you believe these are good people like Stephanie who tried to make a difference, then you should be for her."
His point is that the people in Congress who are supporting Hillary are doing so because they think she would make a good president.
It seems reasonable, even if you disagree with that assessment.

(9,870 posts)....is at it again. She wasn't a Senator for very long to begin with---so the "93% of the time" stat, if even true, was the blink of an eye---just long enough to vote for the disastrous Iraq War. Which seems never ending.
He's actually trying to subtly conflate Bernie with the Establishment. And Hillary with Bernie. All just one, happy progressive family with "no difference between 'em". Bill leeks obfuscation out of with every slick pore.

(1,150 posts)1) All posts (69 of them) are identical in this respect: they are always video links with <iframe> tags that don't render from inside DU posts.
2) Not once has the poster ever responded to a reply. All posts are OPs with video links, most with some canned text.
3) DU account opened in February.
This time, however, the troll's video was pretty hard to ignore.
I'm a Sanders supporter, and agree that Fox News is garbage. I wish that Democrats would simply commit to never appearing on it. Period.
I also agree that Bill Clinton didn't quite say what the subject line says he did. A few words qualified what he said a bit, but what he did say is... well, really hard for me to pass off as significantly altered by the qualifiers.
Finally, though - I don't like getting information from a troll. I'm going to have to treat Clinton's statement like a jury instruction to ignore something just heard for purposes of evidence. A human being can't truly ignore such a thing, but it's possible to consciously set such a thing aside when arriving at conclusions.

(57,936 posts)Their offer of a few people on a committee or two at the convention and a speech slot for Bernie is far too little.
I heard that Hillary bargained for a much bigger role in Obama's administration than people realize. I don't want to say just what I heard, but ask around. I hope a news source will look into that.

(57,936 posts)It would be up to Bernie.
But to break up the big banks into healthier sizes, those are the two positions you need.
Just my opinion.
By the way, Bernie is better qualified, much better qualified for the post of Sec. lf the Treasury than is Hillary.
When he first served in the House, he was on the Banking Committee, and he now serves on the Senate Budget Committee.
He does not have a law degree, nevertheless, he is a quick study and could probably serve as Attorney General too after so many years in Congress. He went in in 1992 I believe. That's a long time in Congress.
It's Hillary who lacks the experience with banking and budget matters.
LuvLoogie
(8,815 posts)Creating state banks might be easier than breaking up the big commercial banks. I think people would welcome the choice. I don't know what the obstacles would be, but you could probably do it in a state like Vermont. It seems to me there already exists a collective will for that kind of legislation.
JDPriestly
(57,936 posts)A state bank would be great in California.
LuvLoogie
(8,815 posts)I'm a bit skeptical of a post office bank beyond a few basic services. And that would require federal legislation.
California has always been a groundbreaking state. Someone should try and pique the governor's interest.

(8,815 posts)on a state level. USPS would be federal and likely harder to pass.
You could start state banks in democratically controlled governments like California and Vermont, maybe Minnesota.
It's working in North Dakota.

I believe she did in fact get the support of that 90% because she is calling in favors as part of being in the political establishment, but I do think there is a difference between republicans and democrats. Just not nearly as much as I would like.
All that aside, he sure doesn't sound good. He doesn't sound to me to be nearly as sharp as he used to be. I know people who lost a bit after open heart surgery. I wonder if it is that or some other issue.

(6,719 posts)vote down ballot and please vote for one of the names preprinted on the ballot for president. There will be a dozen probably depending on where you live. The names preprinted on the ballot will get counted the night of the election. Write in votes may or may not ever get counted but certainly not on that Tuesday night. We want DNC to notice the total votes.

All the speculation is about over. For all the world, it sounds like you're telling people who haven't voted in the Primary yet to not vote for Hillary and to vote for Bernie instead. (8,175 posts)But that's pretty much what he was saying...if she wins the nomination, just "Don't vote" period. In other words that he is suggesting people just stay home and don't be involved in the whole process. And that should be enough to piss off a whole lot of people.
Our youth (30 and under) are engaged in the political process in a way they have never been before, and as it was discussed in a video I posted earlier today*, that is good for our country. The biggest problem we have in this country is voter apathy, and the more voters we can encourage to vote and stay involved in the process, the more we can actually get done in the name of "progressive change".
So Bill, you are not a smart man if you are really saying this. Not smart at all.
*Two video clips here about a book called "People Get Ready", which should be a must read for any progressive democrat. It's an interview of the two authors of the book (Robert McChesney and John Nichols), on The Real News.
