one week or so in Austin. I remember once getting just past Lake Placid at about 4:00 AM in the morning, sitting at a roadside rest area watching the Aurora Borealis over in Canada.

Living there had a certain American/European mix that if I couldn't be an American, I could be very happy being a Canadian. If I could go to only four cities on the world and they had to Montreal, Quebec, Toronto, Vancoover only, I could be very happy.

No race problem? What would the way people of the First Nations say about that?

above his abilities. I remember the Detroit fans who booed the Canadian anthem after the Canadians sang the US national anthem. More Canadian know our anthem than do we. The only freaking time I ever felt I was this close to a severe pommeling my whole time in Canada ever was the weekend of that crap.

There's a youtube video of Canadians singing our anthem a Capella after power was lost to the lights, screen and music. I know for a fact in the US most people would at most sink into a hum. Or fiddle with their "smart" phones all the way through.

The Canadians make good friends.

I've spent a great deal of time in Canada, and own property there. But I have no illusions that Canadians are in any way superior or nicer than the Americans I know. This attempt to portray Canadians as somehow nicer and saner than Americans is just plain silly. I knew Canadians whose idea of a good time was to get drunk on Friday night and go looking for a fight.

Not just to be agreeable either

And I wouldn't call Ford a decent person promoted above his abilities. He ran for office, and won due to the previous Con Premier of the province amalgamating greater Toronto with all the outlaying suburbs that were mostly conservative voters. A kind of redistricting to assure that any new mayor of Toronto would be nominated by the con majority outside of greater Toronto. He ran much like Trump, a populist that would say anything. And of course also had the hubris to think he could smoke crack with gangsters and drink till he passed out. Then vehemently denied and lied about it. Make comments about a female staffer that he'd like to "eat her out". And when confronted said "I have more than enough to eat at home". So no, not a decent person.

And yeah, I grew up with some of those kinds of guys that just wanted to drink and beat people up...and then brag about it on the job site the next day. There are a percent of assholes in every country.

I don't find that video funny at all. That kind of passive aggressive shot-making by Canadians against Americans is embarrassing to me. (Unless it is actually funny) But you are too tempting a target. But its not just Canadians that are baffled by so much of your population's views, its the whole world. Like that cover of an English paper entitled How Can 59 Million People Be So Dumb? after the second time Bush was (s)elected. And now, Canadians, along with most of the rest of the world are asking.."How can half of your population actually plan to vote for such a stupid racist asshole like Trump?"

Its probably a symptom of being ignored, like a big brother ignores his young sibling. So some take a bit of pleasure in rubbing in how at least we do not have quite the same levels of idiocracy as down there. Sorry, but you do have us beat in that. And we have to ask, what does that say about how your country is run or has evolved through the decades?

And I realize that when we make fun, you and the rest of the more enlightened, intelligent, and mostly liberal Americans get lumped in with your rather large segment of ignorant arrogant assholes. But actually putting up their own ignorant arrogant asshole to represent them through an established old party?....I'll try and be diplomatic...Only in America is all I'll say.

lets see ... drunk and a fight - welcome to Texas. How many infants have shot their parents this year in Canada this year? Whats the murder rate in Canada vs the murder rate in here in the US? Whats the last war the Canadians inflicted on the world? When was the last time the primaries in Canada sank to the lows they do here in the US? The Canadians are more civil than a lot of the participants on DU. Silly people those Canadians.

You don't sound like much of a liberal or a Democrat. I like Canada and Canadians. The silly part is the bogus sainthood we've assigned to the entire nation. Ford was actually a great deal more conservative than Trump, so I guess you're right about that.
