He's gaining as much support and clout as possible for the effect on the party going forward and on the platform.

His millions and millions of young supporters do not want him to abandon the movement when there's still a little more that can be done.

And so do democratic voters of all stripes. There is no need to rush this. A good contested convention will only generate energy and enthusiasm.
Also, everyone, go look at the Primary turnouts Dem vs GOP. Way more Dem voters are turning out for the primaries than are GOP voters. From what I've been reading tonight, the DNC is drawing two of every three voters or more.
This indicates a few things, among them, the GOP has not, even with Trump, invigorated their base, or anyone else. The Dems on the other hand, are on par with the last two elections, which they handily won.
Hearing out Bernie Sanders, and having him remain in the race, represents absolutely no danger to the Dems chances of winning the Presidency.
