(14 posts)IMO, the main reason Americans in the top decile are doing so much better is because they had the wherewithal to weather the 2008 crisis while retaining their own homes and their rental/investment properties. Many home owners in the lower 90% lost their homes while those in the top decile picked them up at bargain basement prices with fantastic financing. Those same homes are now being rented to their former owners at prices not in any way related to the valuation of the house as a property to be sold or purchased. Rental prices are outrageously higher than they should be.
To sum up, the rentier class has expanded and become more sociopathic than ever while the rest of us are literally dying earlier than we did twenty years ago. This is neoliberalism, the inhuman doyen of every powerful Republican AND Democrat.
