... felt the need to use English subtitles so we can understand actual English people.

Although I will say the Scottish accent can sometimes be a bit daunting to the unprepared American ear.

3. Well, there are those of us who are getting older and whose hearing isn't what it used to be.

So we really appreciate the subtitles, even though I don't have much trouble understanding English or Scottish or Irish accents, except when they get too thick. Of course I have been to places in the deep South where I had significant difficulty understanding the accent as well and that was back when my hearing was a lot better!
