Secrets lie deep within Jupiter, shrouded in the solar system's strongest magnetic field and most lethal radiation belts.
On July 4, 2016, NASA's Juno spacecraft will plunge into uncharted territory, entering orbit around the gas giant and passing closer than any spacecraft before.
Juno will see Jupiter for what it really is, but first it must pass the trial of orbit insertion.

Closing in on Jupiter
NASA
Published on Jun 16, 2016
On June 16, NASA discussed the status of its Juno mission to Jupiter during a news briefing at the agencys headquarters, in Washington DC.
This Fourth of July, the solar-powered Juno spacecraft will arrive at our solar systems most massive planet after an almost five-year journey.
Once in Jupiters orbit, the spacecraft will circle the Jovian world 37 times during 20 months, skimming to within 3,100 miles (5,000 kilometers) above the cloud tops.
This is the first time a spacecraft will orbit the poles of Jupiter, providing new answers to ongoing mysteries about the planets core, composition and magnetic fields.

What will NASA's Juno mission learn at Jupiter? Find out in this mission overview video produced by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
JPL manages the Juno mission for principal investigator Scott Bolton.
The Juno mission is part of the New Frontiers Program managed at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala.
Lockheed Martin Space Systems of Denver built the spacecraft.
Launch management for the mission is the responsibility of NASA's Launch Services Program at the agency's Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
JPL is a division of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena.
