There is a new 21st century breed of economists ("progressive&quot both here and abroad. I've been soaking up every one I can re:Brexit and their perspective is not easy to find in the MSM. The only MSM I saw that even hinted at the structural probs of the EU (for which Brexit is a result)was Chris Hayes interviewing Dean Baker (and Laura Flanders.)

There have been some really informative posts here on DU over the weekend, but Prof Keen really connects all the dots.
He makes me want to go back to college and get a degree in progressive economics!

I've held back on discussing this issue, because I was conflicted. I worried about Greece and other small countries and how the EU has affected them, so I'm torn between wanting the union to keep travel and jobs available across the EU, but there are definite neoliberal problems not being addressed by the EU.

And the point about how our economies have changed to living on credit cannot be discussed enough. It is certainly an issue here in the US. I was forced to learn how to live without credit a long time ago, and I'm perfectly happy not buying things I want until I can save up enough cash to buy them without credit.

I wish more people would wake up to this 'credit crisis' we are in, and learn how to give up some of those 'necessities', that are often wants, not needs...but this society frowns on people who don't live up to certain standards based on consumerism.

Thank you Thom Hartmann!!!
This was probably the most informative bit on Brexit that I have seen since last week's vote. Too bad this point of view gets ignored by main stream corporate media. (I am surprised and dismayed at the simplistic approach John Oliver has taken when discussing Brexit on his show). I took it upon myself to learn just a little about the Maastricht Treaty after listening. More Americans should probably take the time to get familiar with the austerity the treaty prescribes. They might look at Brexit in a different light.
