Repressive Republican Voting Laws Are Getting Decimated In Court

The Republicans’ only hope for winning this year’s election is to steal it, but the Judicial Branch is actually doing their job and working to overturn all of the repressive voting laws that the GOP has worked on for years ahead of the election. Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins goes live from his home to discuss this.

Once you're in the Board of Elections office and ready to register, there's no problem---you don't need a picture ID. As the woman behind the desk explains to everyone, "Voting is a civil right and you don't need a picture in New York."

BUT---in order to get past security in the lobby downstairs--you do have to have a picture ID. So, in effect, anyone without a picture ID cannot even get to the voter registration office. It's a de facto block on voting.

I spoke to them about it and they just kept saying, "Not my department. We're separate systems".

All true, but the effect is that any one who can't afford a picture ID or who are just 18 and voting for the first time, or who are too old and can't prove their birthday as many older Americans can not, (as my grandmother and grandfather could not) can not get upstairs to register.

Yes, there are other ways to register---but I bet this ID two step disenfranchises lots of potential voters.

It can take half the day plus the cost to get a picture ID in the city. An 18 year old high school student would just blow it off since not every school gives photo ID's.
