Do we really want humanity to become an "multiplanetary" species? Humanity as we know it today, I mean.

I can't sign up for this nihilistic vision that we are, or should be, condemned to die on this planet. We've done a lot of bad, but we're capable of a lot of good as well. Humanity needs a backup plan. All it takes is on wayward unseen meteor and it's lights out for us.
